How come a publicising agenda?
IAG = Information Advice and Guidance!
Source: Somerset Council Youth Service, ‘Your Leisure, Your Needs, Your Views’ 2000
Youth matters described
‘ an annual activities handbook for all
young people which would detail the
range of things to do and places to go in
the local area. This would also set out
the charging arrangements, whether
there is local opportunity card and if so
how and where it can be used …’
And so…..
• No you don’t want a handbook
• You want a website as well!!
Publicising Positive activities requirements
• By March 2008 – youth offer publicised

design and management
– publicity to show how young people’s views are
being ‘taken into account’
– information on how to challenge the local
authority / Trusts
Information and engagement
Access to information and services
– All young people should be able to
access the information, and appropriate
support should be made available for
those who need it (IAG and travel etc).
– Information promoted to young people
through the full range of channels. (web,
places, faces)
– Young people to influence the publicity;
and the local offer of positive activities.
Detailed accurate information

information
• Consistent and sustainable information
supplies from all partners
• A cross-Lancashire strategy
• Young peoples web communities where
young people interact on line
• One stop shop on the web-youth portal
Some challenges
• A single integrated area for young people on the web
• Integrating existing publicising and engagement
work
• Information contributions from partners (Incl.
Updates)
• Marketing and communications strategy
• Publishing documents and materials for circulation as
handouts – economically and sustainable
• Developing “outlets” or “agents” for information to get
out as part of IAG and customer access strategies
• Measuring and maintaining standards of activities
Example of practice

area with content from users and online
community building
Project Vision

information about services within Lancashire through:
– The publicising in one place, of all the positive activities and
facilities for, primarily, 13-19 year olds in the authority’s area,
including statutory and voluntary provision, district leisure
facilities, private sector provision and volunteering
opportunities
– The integration of aspects of young people’s engagement
into the process
– The integration of Information advice and guidance in to the
process
