ATTENDANCE: Unexcused/Authorized/Excused/LOC TRIMESTER SCHEDULE: 5 Classes/Day, 3 Grading Periods, 15 credits, 3 lunch periods (A,B,C) HOMEWORK: ASSIST Program, Request pick-up after 3 days out LEVEL OF RIGOR: Time Management, Pacing, More Homework SCHEDULE CHANGES: English classes determined by Dept. Chair, World Language placement determined by English placement HOW IS HIGH SCHOOL DIFFERENT FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL? CLINIC: All medications stored in clinic, elevator keys, update emergency cards, passes to/from CELL PHONES: OFF DURING CLASS TIME!!! LOCKERS: Automatically issued to freshmen, on request after that. Backpacks are allowed. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL • Increased Responsibility • Information in the daily announcements is your responsibility • More deadlines to meet • Notes, Passes, Documentation regarding attendance issues need to be turned into the guidance office in a timely manner • Friendships will change • Rules and Policies are in place to help prepare you for life after high school • Increased Accountability INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA TYPES FOR CLASS OF 2016 and AFTER GENERAL DIPLOMA DIPLOMA TYPES CORE 40 with ACADEMIC HONORS: 48 credits CORE 40 with TECHNICAL HONORS: 48 credits CORE 40: 45 credits GENERAL: 42 credits ALL MUST PASS GRADUATION QUALIFYING EXAMS SCHEDULING OF CLASSES English Placement is determined by English Department Chair ISTEP+ and ACUITY test scores and GRADES are used World Language Placement is determined by English Placement Math Placement is determined by 8th Grade Teacher Recommendation Besides earning required number of credits to graduate, End of Course Assessments must be taken and passed to graduate. Algebra I, English 10 End of Course Assessments (ECA) must be taken and passed to graduate. Biology I ECA will also be taken. SCHEDULING OF CLASSES CONTINUED Indiana Career Information System (ICIS) offers many tools to help with career exploration, college searches, etc. Family Access helps you keep up to date on student’s grades, attendance, lunch account balance, and email teachers Requests for schedule changes can be submitted to counselor the first 3 days of each trimester Dropped classes after day 3 of a trimester will be recorded as a withdrawal failure (WF) on the transcript. Besides scheduling of classes, counselors can help students will personal concerns, post-secondary planning, conflict resolution, and be an adult advocate for them. Only 4 unexcused absences are allowed in each class each trimester More than 4 unexcused absences in a class could result in Loss Of Credit (LOC), even if a passing grade was earned Absences are only excused with doctor statements, funeral documents, and pre-arranged absences with an administrator Parent call-ins are authorized, but NOT excused Required classes with LOC, must be retaken NCAA ELIGIBILITY Must register at beginning of senior year: www.eligibilitycenter.org Minimum: Core 40 diploma, complete 10 of the 16 core classes by end of junior year, 2.30 GPA, 900 SAT Let counselor know early that you are considering playing sports at college level, so correct courses can be scheduled over next four years of high school.
