PCTIA – ABOUT US

 Crown Corporation established under the

PCTI Act

reports to the Ministry of Advanced Education and  Governed by a board of seven elected career training institution representatives and three members appointed by the Minister of Advanced Education. Refer to the PCTIA Bylaws for more information on the Board

PCTIA – MANDATE

 Student protection  Regulatory body for private career training institutions • Establishes and enforces Basic Education Standards for registered institutions and Quality Standards for accredited institutions • Manages Student Training Completion Fund (STCF) which provides tuition refunds to students in the event of a institution closure, or when the institution, in the opinion of the Board, has misled a student

WHO IS REQUIRED TO REGISTER?

Institutions providing, or offering to provide training that:   is 40 hours or longer in duration and is $1,000 or more in tuition and  is career related A institution must register with PCTIA before providing or offering to provide (or advertise) training in British Columbia

SEVEN STEPS TO PCTIA REGISTRATION

1.

Download and complete the Registration Application Package and Pro-forma Budget Package 2.

Sign up for the New Institution Registration Workshop (held in-person or via webinar) 3.

Complete the draft Registration Application and bring it with you to the New Institution Registration Workshop

After completing this workshop, submit completed Registration Application Package and Pro-forma Budget Package and registration fees within 6 months 5.

Host a site visit by a PCTIA representative 6.

Once all requirements are met, submit all remaining fees as listed in the registration letter

BASIC EDUCATION STANDARDS FOR A REGISTERED INSTITUTION

To be registered in BC, an institution must be able to demonstrate it has: 1.

A mission statement Adequate financial capacity to meet its obligations A qualified on-site administrator and a Senior Educational Administrator

Complete student records and instructor files Policies as listed in PCTIA Bylaws and provided to students prior to signing a student contract. Samples are available on the PCTIA website Instructors with a degree, diploma or certificate related to the career field in which they teach and a minimum of 24 months of full-time occupational experience in their career field OR 10 years of experience in the field of study

Facilities, equipment and resources appropriate to the type of training being offered Student Contracts that meet PCTIA requirements Adequate programs and work experience

ONGOING REQUIREMENTS

Once registered, an institution must continuously meet the requirements of registration and ensure that:  Advertising is accurate and factual, and material relating to each advertisement is available to the Agency   All operational changes are reported to PCTIA All ongoing reporting requirements are met
