“Yes I can Qualify CA’
Stay motivated, Enjoy success
Gampa Nageshwar Rao
What is motivation?
Motivation is essentially about
commitment to doing something
Factors stimulating motivation
can be •
•
•
•
•
Self-satisfaction
Success or achieving your goals
Desire for money
Recognition
Team work, etc.
Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation
Intrinsic motivation relies on
internal, personal factors such
as needs, interests, and
curiosity
Definition – motivation associated
with activities that are their own
reward.
Extrinsic motivation relies on
external, environmental factors
such as rewards, social
pressure, and punishment.
Definition – Motivation created by
external factors such as rewards
and punishments that has very little
to do with the task itself.
Maslow theory of motivation
Maslow's
theory
consisted of
two parts:
The
classification of
human needs,
and
Consideration of
how the classes
are related to
each other
How does the hierarchy work?
A person starts at the bottom of the hierarchy (pyramid) and will initially seek to satisfy basic needs
(e.g. food, shelter)
Once these physiological needs have been satisfied, they are no longer a motivator. the individual
moves up to the next level
Safety needs at work could include physical safety (e.g. protective clothing) as well as protection
against unemployment, loss of income through sickness etc.)
Social needs recognize that most people want to belong to a group. These would include the need for
love and belonging (e.g. working with colleague who support you at work, teamwork, communication)
Esteem needs are about being given recognition for a job well done. They reflect the fact that many
people seek the esteem and respect of others. A promotion at work might achieve this
Self-actualization is about how people think about themselves - this is often measured by the extent of
success and/or challenge at work
Strategies to stay motivated
Motivational strategies in this module have been
organized into the following themes:
Am I maximizing my intrinsic sources of motivation?
Do my values fit my goals and actions?
Do I feel a sense of control?
Do I have balance and connection to self and others?
How can I maintain my drive and energy?
Am I maximizing my intrinsic
motivation?
The more intrinsic interest you have, the better. Ask
yourself:
If the answer is no, think about ways to incorporate
your intrinsic interests into your work:
Do you allow yourself time in the day to
“just think”?
What makes you motivate yourself?
Do you enjoy reading materials that
motivates you to reach your goals?
What makes you exciting about your
goal? What kind of research you made
about your goal?
Do you get excited by new research
findings?
What kind of latest information available
within your field?
Do you find yourself thinking about your
goals all the time?
Try a thought experiment: If you could
design and work on your goal, with no
limits at all, what would it be?
Whether or not your dream project is
realistic or not.
Do my values fit my goals and
actions?
Think clearly & specifically about your
future plans:
Unity and cohesion of values and
actions is the goal.
• Where do you see yourself? What do you want?
• Consider whether how you spend your time day to
day corresponds with your future goals
• Imagine where you see yourself after your course
and structure your time to pursue that goal

Change
Mindfulness
Surrender
• Mindfulness is awareness,

of you as you are, of others as
they are. It is a condition of
“being” present rather than
“doing”.
• Surrender to a higher power,
whatever that means to you.
Celebrate Your Mistakes

• Celebrating allows you to focus
on correcting the problem.
• Accept the problem by telling
yourself the truth about it.
Describe it in detail.

affirmations and mantras.
