2013 Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) & Human Services Grants Presenters Sandra Flores Natalie Garcia Senior Program Officer Program Officer Michelle Murphy Foundation Support Specialist WHAT WE WILL COVER TODAY 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Teen Pregnancy Prevention Grant Opportunities Human Services Grant Opportunities New Process for Human Services Grant Cycle Eligibility & Restrictions How to Apply using OLGA IMPORTANT TPP DEADLINES OPF June 7 at 5 p.m. Application June 21 at 5 p.m. Final or Interim Report August 29, 2014 at 5 p.m. IMPORTANT HUMAN SERVICES DEADLINES NEW: Letter of Interest May 29 at 5 p.m. OPF & Application (by invite only) June 21 at 5 p.m. Final Report August 29, 2014 at 5 p.m. GOALS TO FUND Teen Pregnancy Prevention & Human Services Teen Pregnancy Prevention 2013 Funding $380,000 for organizations serving Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Merced and Kings Counties Teen Pregnancy Prevention Three types of grants: Pilot, Planning and Program PILOT GRANTS • These grants are intended to supplement core TPP interventions. • Examples include: Innovative or culturally-relevant approaches Parent education Community outreach and education • Grant range: $10,000 to $35,000 • Grant duration: One year Teen Pregnancy Prevention Three types of grants: Pilot, Planning and Program PLANNING GRANTS • These grants are intended to support organizations offer TPP programing by: Purchasing evidence-based curriculum Training staff Identifying and partnering with clinic services Activities to support the implementation of programming • Grant range: $10,000 to $35,000 • Grant duration: One year Teen Pregnancy Prevention Three types of grants: Pilot, Planning and Program PROGRAM GRANTS • These grants will support organizations offering TPP programs that are: Comprehensive Medically accurate Provide access or referrals to clinical services • Grant range: $50,000 to $100,000 • Grant duration: Two years Teen Pregnancy Prevention Eligibility Criteria These factors are required: • The program is: Medically accurate, comprehensive and free from bias. Gender appropriate Culturally and linguistically competent for target population Providing referrals to a family planning service provider (as evidenced by a letter of cooperation with a service provider) Evidence-based (For a list, please visit FRF’s Teen Pregnancy Addendum page.) Teen Pregnancy Prevention Selection Criteria These items will cause the applicant’s proposal to receive a higher ranking: • Programs that: Have high impact and focus on outcome Have a service provider referral system developed Have a youth development focus Involve parents or significant adult Define outcomes well • Sustainability of programs • Partner with other organizations doing related work Teen Pregnancy Prevention Selection Criteria (con’t.) • Knowledge of other organizations doing related work • The organization's long-standing and deep knowledge of a community • The organization's impact on long-term community change as is pertains to youth and their families • The financial health of applying organization • Grant specific budget • If the selected curriculum was modified, please indicate how it was modified. • It is important to provide clarity on why this intervention was chosen for the targeted population HUMAN SERVICES Goals to Fund • To support capacity-building strategies for organizations serving children 0-8. The funding will focus on board governance, leadership development, and/or fiscal management. *These funds can include the costs associated with contracting outside expertise to support capacity-building activities. HUMAN SERVICES Grant Amounts & Duration • $120,000 available • Grant range: $5,000 to $25,000 • Duration: One year. However, one twoyear grant of up to $30,000 may be awarded. Selection Criteria These items will cause the applicant’s proposal to receive a higher ranking: • Serving unincorporated communities • Serving low-income communities and communities of color OVERVIEW OF THE NEW LOI PROCESS FRF is using a two-page Letter of Interest (LOI) to save organizations time and resources when applying for funding. • Steps to submit the LOI: 1) Review FRF’s Eligibility Criteria and the 2013 Human Services Goals to Fund for information on FRF’s funding restrictions and priorities. 2) Complete the LOI, with 12-point font and not to exceed two pages, using the template provided on FRF’s Grantmaking page. 3) Submit your LOI by emailing to [email protected]. Please title your email Human Services LOI—your organization’s name. The deadline to submit your LOI is Wednesday, May 29 at 5 p.m. OVERVIEW OF THE NEW PROCESS • Organizations will be notified whether or not they will be invited to submit a full application by Monday, June 10. Further guidance will be provided at that time. An Organizational Profile Form and application will be due by Friday, June 21 at 5 p.m. • This grant cycle will fund capacity-building activities for organizations serving children 0-8 as stated in the Goals to Fund. These grants will not fund direct service programs. If consultants will be contracted for this work, please be prepared to include the consultant and the scope of work in the full application. Eligibility • • • • • 501(c)3 nonprofit status Government Agency (ex: cities, counties) Community Group w/ fiscal agent Public Agency (ex: library) Educational Institution (ex: high school or university) Eligibility Eligibility Organizational health measured by: • 2011 IRS 990 • Most recent Board-reviewed internal financial statements (must include assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses) • External audit (only if gross receipts more than $500,000) • Operational budget for organization • Minimum of five board members with diverse experiences/backgrounds Restrictions We will not consider grant requests for the following: • Previously incurred expenses • Fundraising by one agency on behalf of another • Endowments • Institutions limiting their services to individuals of a single religious sect or denomination • Individuals Reporting Requirements • Please review reporting requirements before applying • Share any media coverage resulting from the grant award • Failure to submit may disqualify the grantee from future funding requests How to Apply Using OLGA www.fresnoregfoundation.org Submission of OPF and Application FRF has three layers to ensure that OPFs and applications are successfully submitted: 1. The web page confirmation 2. The automated email sent to applicants once an item is submitted 3. The final email approval sent by the Program Staff WHEN ONE OF THESE LAYERS IS MISSING, IT IS AN INDICATION THAT THE ITEM WAS NOT SUCCESSFULLY SUBMITTED.
