Slang
Slang is informal language, as opposed to Standard English,
that is used to identify with peers. Use of slang can prevent
people from understanding a message – sometimes
intentionally.
Like other types of language,
slang changes over time. It
can date quickly, but some
words which were originally
slang became so widely used
that they are now part of
Standard English.
