Introduction

  Hospitality and Tourism Management is as old as civilization. Traders, hunters and others needed a place to rest and at the same time rest the horses. As the 19 th century emerged, hotels were built, travel was marketed and transportation systems emerged. Today, the hospitality and tourism management is one of the largest industries in the world! There are many opportunities for persons who are interested in “serving” and “being of service,” to exceed guests expectations.

What were the historical developments of hospitality and tourism management? What are the major components of hospitality and tourism management? What are some of the national organizations/groups related to Hospitality and Tourism?

Task

You have been asked by your company to research the Hospitality and Tourism industry through out history. You will design a three fold pamphlet that your company will print to hand out at the college and career fair at your local high school. Your task will be to analyze information about the hospitality and tourism industry. View, research and summarize information related to the following:

 What are some of the national organizations/groups related to Hospitality and Tourism?  What are the goals and objectives of these groups?

 Review some hotel web sites and summarize historical facts about the development of hospitality and tourism management. How have these specific hotels impacted the industry?

 Complete each question by summarizing or making charts/graphs to illustrate trend or changes.  Use Publisher to Design and type a 3 fold brochure by including the answers to the questions.

Hospitality and Tourism Management Careers are challenging and provide many opportunities to be creative to exceed guest expectations. The career provides an unlimited number of opportunities for persons who are willing to serve and make guests happy. After completion of the brochure, each team will be assigned one component from question two. The team will write a one to two page paper on their component and present it to the class.
