Current Service Provision

 2 Acute inpatient wards 52 beds (0-14yrs) – Peak activity ED & ward 6pm-10pm – High rates of admission with short LOS – Low occupancy  Elective surgery provided on 3 sites  No facilities for adolescents  1 PAW DHH - 2 beds open 9am-5pm Mon-Fri  3 locality based CCN teams 9am-5pm Mon-Fri

Future Service Provision

         Enhanced triage & treatment in ED by Emergency Paediatric Nurse Practitioners Ambulatory services in CAH 9am-10pm Mon-Fri & extension of DHH opening hours PALs for advice on appropriate admission routes Reduce medical inpatient bed numbers Move all paediatric elective surgery to DHH Adolescent beds on each site (16 yrs) Specialist nursing role development (diabetes/epilepsy/resp/palliative) Extend working hours of CCN service 8am-10pm + weekend Rapid Response teams linked to 2 ambulatory units  Step down from regional unit to acute HD bed  Support discharge of complex/palliative care  Follow up of ambulatory patients
