Introducing, charms
Charms are five simple system commands that help you
navigate Windows 8, working in a consistent way.
The charms are: Search, Share, Start, Devices, Settings.
What do they do?
Charms provide a single place to control your Windows 8 experience.
•
Search across apps, settings, and files on your device.
•
Share helps send files and photos from any app.
•
Start takes you to your Start screen with one tap or click.
•
Devices helps connect to your peripherals.
•
Settings helps control and personalize your PC or tablet.
How do I reveal charms?
Charms are always available. To access the charms with touch, swipe in
from the right edge. If using a mouse and keyboard, hover the mouse
pointer in the upper or lower right corners to reveal the charms.
Introducing,
Search
The Search charm provides a system-wide search functionality.
Just start typing to search across all of your apps, settings, and files
from one place, saving you time. No more wasted time opening
multiple search windows.
Search pulls content from deep within apps.
Click next to see deep search in action!
We search for Madrid, Spain and results appear in the Travel app. We also
find top websites relevant to Madrid from the Internet Explorer 10 app, plus
maps of Madrid from the Maps app – all pulled from a single search.

looking for faster
Introducing,
Share
Share content between apps without leaving the app you're in.
Send a photo to a friend without losing your place or share a news article with a
coworker as you read it.
The value of this is that you don’t have to leave the app you’re in to share
something with another person.

any charm.
Introducing,
Start
Return to the Start screen from anywhere on your device.
If you're on the Start screen when you tap or click the Start charm, you'll go
back to the previous screen. The value of this is that you are always
one tap or click away from your personalized Start screen.

any charm.
Introducing,
Devices
The Devices charm helps you easily connect to external monitors,
printers, cameras, HDMI TVs, and more. You also go here to print,
unless working in the desktop.
Click on
any charm.
Introducing,
Settings
Control your PC or tablet's settings, including user accounts,
notifications, language, audio and visual setup, Wi-Fi networks, and
more.
Control the settings of an individual app as well.
