Product Description
• Air preheat system that operates at full steam
pressure
• LAT preset by user & monitored by thermostat
• Thermostat & pneumatic actuator operate (close
& open) special dampers
• As EAT varies, dampers hold LAT constant by
proportioning right amount of air across heating
elements
• Balance of air passes thru bypass channels

Solutions to User Problems
NO FREEZING
• As EAT , modulated steam systems  0 psig
• Result = Vacuum = Flooded Coil
• When EAT < 32°F, this condensate can freeze
• Frozen condensate then expands & splits the
tubes
Armstrong Duramix™
OPERATES AT FULL STEAM PRESSURE
Prevents Freezing

Solutions to User Problems
NO LEAKS
• Weakest Point = Tube-to-Header Joint
• Light-Duty Coil: Cu tube brazed on a steel
header
• Brazed joints easily crack under the stresses of
thermal expansion
• Dissimilar metal precludes galvanic corrosion
Armstrong Duramix™
ALL WELDED, MONOMETALLIC CONSTRUCTION
Prevents Leaks
Prevents Galvanic Corrosion

Solutions to User Problems
MINIMAL TEMPERATURE OVERRIDE
• Bypass mode: Dampers must completely isolate
heating elements from air stream
• Complex damper controls w/ numerous wear
points precludes poor damper control
Armstrong Duramix™
SIMPLE, ALL STAINLESS STEEL DAMPER CONTROLS
Good, Long-Lasting Damper Control
Minimal Temperature Override

Solutions to User Problems
NO REPIPING
• Installing different brand replacements means
repiping to accommodate new connection
locations
• Duckwork must also be modified to match new
casing dimensions and bolthole locations
Armstrong Duramix™
LAYOUTS MATCH MAJORITY OF UNITS IN FIELD
No Repiping
No ductwork Modifications

• Estimate building heat loss
• Select number units to deliver heat
• Check throw or spread for floor coverage
• If necessary, adjust selection to suit coverage

Calculate Heat Required
MBH = (V/25 + EA/4) x (IDT – ODT)
V = Building Volume, Ft3
EA = Exposed Wall and Roof Area
IDT = Inside Design Temperature, Deg F
ODT = Outside Design Temperature, Deg F
Preliminary numbers of heaters = Int(MBH/1277) + 1

Things To Watch Out For
• Make sure you check both one and two row
units for price/MBH
• One row units are generally less expensive and throw
better
• Don’t let customer mount units too high
• Make sure units are piped and vented properly
