COOP- If want to apply for credit and grade
(maximun allowable 6 credits):
Once accepted into a program must:

Request the coop practice application package from
the coop office of the college of engineering in
stefani-219 (ask for ms. Maritza Figueroa)

2. Interview with the COOP coordinator Dr. Carlos
Muñoz ([email protected]; room # b-030). The
coordinator must give his written authorization for
your registration in the course.
3. Register for the course in the dept (Biol 4998). Make
sure that you are registered for the amount of credits
agreed with the coordinator.

4. Go
to the program
"Stay in touch with the Coordinator (Dr. C. A. Muñoz) by
entering the WebCT site al least once a week for the entire
period of the practice".

5. Provide your mentor with the forms that he will fill out at
the end of the program where he will assess your
performance as well as give you a grade.
6. Upon returning to RUM fill out the undergraduate
research assessment form included in the package AS
WELL AS
THE "RESUMEN DEL TRABAJO REALIZADO" (ABSTRACT)
and return to Dr. Carlos Munoz
7. Look for forums to present your results (ex. scientific
meetings)

"Minority Undergraduate Research Fellowships (MURF)" California Institute of
Technology (Caltech). This is a research program that will expose students to the excitement and
opportunities of a research career. This experience will provide excellent preparation for students interested in
subsequently pursuing a Ph.D. Students will work in the laboratory of a Caltech faculty member in a research
area matched to the interest expressed in the student's application. The student stipend is $500/week for 8 to 10
weeks, plus travel expenses and housing on Caltech Campus. Meals and other expenses are not covered.
Eligibility: Applicants must be undergraduate sophomores or juniors , minority majoring in science or
engineering: Applications due February 1; Dates of Program: about June 18 - August 24. Additional information

"Stanford Summer Research Program in Biomedical Sciences" Stanford
University. training towards a doctoral degree in biomedical and biological research. The program is not for
students aiming for a clinical degree. Students are placed in research labs for 8 weeks in the School of
Medicine and the Department of Biological Sciences. Qualifications important for acceptance are a strong
academic record, intellectual independence, and dedication. Previous research experience is not required.
Dates: 8 weeks, late June to mid-August 2000. Application deadline; February 1, 2002. Stipend: $1,500 plus room
