You must complete and present this document to Irene before the first lab session in order to be permitted to participate. EA102: Construction Materials Lab Attendance On arrival, sign in! (your name only) Remember... blank signature spaces highlighted Absent means highlighted signatures: LATE 0 for blank highlighted spaces: ABSENT the lab! 10 minutes grace, then LATE EA102: Construction Materials Lab Groups In Lab Orientation this week you will be forming lab groups. Each class must have 8 Lab Groups: up to 5 persons/group depending on class size. Ideally, we’d like an equal number of students in each group so we may make some changes. Avoid: a) more than one physically-challenged person per group b) ride-sharers in the same group The groups, once set up, will not be changed. EA102: Construction Materials Lab Groups Be careful when joining a group or allowing someone to be a part of your group. The ideal size of a group is 3 members. Most will have 4 and some 5 group members. Many groups end up at each others throats because one or more members are unwilling to participate. We are not referees! You have to sort these things out yourselves. EA102: Construction Materials Lab Reports In order to get a mark for the lab EVERY student must submit a report. Every group member should record the data on their OWN data sheet, perform the calculations and prepare a report. Moaning to us that Sally or Sammy has the data but hasn’t been seen for 4 days will only draw uproarious laughter from us. EA102: Construction Materials Lab Reports Lab reports (as described in “Policies and Procedures”) generally consist of: 1. Title Page 2. Report Summary Forms 3. Graphs 4. Data Sheets 5. Sample Calculations EA102: Construction Materials Labwear Clothes are not optional! If you have coveralls, wear ‘em! Minimize exposed skin: no shorts, kilts skirts, pedal-pushers/capris No high heels or open toed shoes. Its not a fashion parade...don’t wear your new black pants, angora sweater or $250 runners! Its a dirty place! EA102: Construction Materials Lab Behaviour The do’s and don’ts are described in “Policies and Procedures”, but some important things to emphasize: 3. Don’t 1. 2. Horseplay bring be inisayour dealt big “toys” hurry with to very into leave the harshly... the lab...no you cannot listen lab...cleanup is NOT to music OPTIONAL!!! using your ipods, etc. in the lab! We want your head to be in the lab and not at the opera! EA102: Construction Materials Materials 4 Materials A clipboard is ideal to hold your lab instructions and datasheets. Don’t bring bulging binders into the lab. All the course materials you need are on my website ... print off and read the instructions and datasheets before coming to the lab. It would be nice if all group members read the instructions for each lab before coming to the lab, so your all on the same page.... EA102: Construction Materials Materials 4 Materials “The Design and Control of Concrete Mixtures” is the required text book. Students have come back to us after leaving Mohawk and claim they still refer to it quite often....
