A decade in review
The War on Terror

September 11, 2001- four American planes
were hijacked by terrorists from the Middle
East.
 Two were flown into the Twin Towers of the
World Trade Center.
 After a few hours both towers collapsed.
 A third hijacked plane struck military
headquarters at the Pentagon.

On the fourth hijacked plane courageous
passengers fought back against the
terrorists and the plane crashed into a field
outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Blame was placed on the Al Qaida Terrorist
Network, which was led by Osama Bin
Laden.
George W. Bush declared war on terrorism.
American forces attacked military sites and
terrorist training camps in Afghanistan.

On May 1, 2011, President Barack Obama
announced that after 10 years of hunting,
a team of CIA officers and Navy SEALs
killed bin Laden in a firefight near the
Pakistani capital.
Osama Bin Laden was quickly buried at
sea.
Long believed to be hiding in caves, bin
Laden was tracked down in a costly,
custom-built hideout not far from a
Pakistani military academy.
