California GATE History
• 1961-Mentally Gifted Minor: 98th percentile on standardized
intellectual test
• 1980-GATE was established (AB 1040):Districts can set own
criteria, but criteria should include giftedness in the following
areas: academic, visual and performing arts, leadership, and
creativity
