DVB Standards Development Process
• Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) Project is a
consortium of nearly 300 companies working together
to create international standards for digital television.
• All stakeholders are represented.
• Commercial Module group collects and documents a
consensus set of user requirements.
• These Commercial Requirements are supplied to the
Technical Module group who issue Call for Proposals
and develops the Specification.
• The Specification is then approved by the DVB Steering
Board and then offered to international standards bodies.

DVB-CP Commercial Module
• Consists of cross-industry group defining Commercial
Requirements for Content Protection and Copy
Management (CPCM) systems for various DVB systems.
• The DVB-CP held 12th meeting on March 12 in London.
• Commercial Requirements document is nearly finished.
• The document outlines the requirements for both a
baseline DVB-CPCM system and the interface to
proprietary CPCM systems.
• The draft Commercial Requirements have been sent to the
Technical Module (DVB-CPT) for review and comment.

DVB-CPT Technical Module
• The DVB-CPT held 5th meeting on March 13 in London.
• Technical review of Commercial Requirements has led to
requests to the DVB-CP for clarification.
• The DVB-CPT is preparing a Call for Proposals for
CPCM technology vendors that will contain the
Commercial Requirements.
• The DVB-CPT Call for Proposals will be posted on the
CPTWG web site - http://www.cptwg.org
• Planning to hold a DVB-CPT meeting in Los Angeles
during a CPTWG week for Proponents’ presentations.

Current Timetable
• The DVB-CP Commercial Requirements document should
be finalized and approved by DVB-CM in May.
• The DVB-CPT Call for Proposals should be approved by
the DVB-TM in May and issued in early June.
• Deadlines for technology vendors to submit Proposals has
not been fixed but anticipate 12 weeks from CfP issuance.
• Dates for future DVB-CP and DVB-CPT meetings have not
yet been confirmed.
• Reports on the DVB-CP/CPT activities will be given at
future CPTWG meetings.
