The Aim
The aim of the Scout Association
of Australia is to encourage the
physical, intellectual, emotional,
social and spiritual development of
young people so that they may take
a constructive place in society as
responsible citizens, and as
members of their local, national
and international communities.

The Principles
The Principles of Scouting as
identified by the founder, Lord
Baden-Powell, are that Scouts
should serve God, act in
consideration of the needs of others,
and develop and use their abilities to
the betterment of themselves, their
families, and the community in
which they live.
4
The Principles
The three Principles are
represented by a code of conduct
which characterises all members of
the Movement, and are referred to
as “Duty to God”, “Duty to
Others” and “Duty to Self”.

Mission Statement
The Mission of Scouting is to
contribute to the education of young
people, through a value system
based on the Scout Promise and
Law, to help build a better world
where people are self-fulfilled as
individuals and play a constructive
role in society.
14
Mission Statement
This is achieved by …
* Involving them throughout their formative
years in a non-formal educational process.
* Using a specific method that makes each
individual the principal agent in his or her
development as a self-reliant, supportive,
responsible and committed person.
* Assisting them to establish a value system
based upon spiritual, social and personal
principles as expressed in the Promise and
Law.
