and afro-descendants?

Main Findings
 Under representation of young people in
parliaments in the region
 Prevalence in the parliaments of adult men over 46
years old.
 Parlamentarians women are younge than men.
 Greater parity in younger generations.
 Young women represent only the 5% of the seats.
 The largest proportion of diversity initiatives
presented by women are aimed to youths and
indigenous.

Recommendations:
• Establishment of espcific gender equality comissions; indigenous
peoples; afrodecendants; youths; sexual diversity. Measures TE:
ex. Reduce to 18 the entry age.
• Promote policy coordination among women (equality
commissions) and specific committees of groups to generate
processes of greater inclusion.
• Promote processes of awareness-raising and capacity-building in
the committees of the parliaments and political parties (leadership
and empowering young women)
• Support to civil society organizations to: build bridges of dialogue;
channelling resources; articulation between organizations and
media to place on the public agenda the demand to legislate in
favour of the collective identity.

¿La igualdad de género forma parte de esas prioridades de forma
transversal y específica?
What are the main priorities for 2012-2015 for young women leaders of
Latin America and the Caribbean? Is gender equality part of the
agendas of the young leaders of the region?, How and n which areas?
Is gender equality part of these priorities in a cross-cutting and specific
way?
Builing an strategic agenda on gender and youth to work with young
women leaders in the region.
