WHAT DOES THE DRAFT CURRICULUM
MEAN FOR US?
THE DRAFT 2014 KS1
COMPUTING CURRICULUM
Pupils should be taught to:
• understand what algorithms are, how they are implemented as
programs on digital devices, and that programs execute by
following a sequence of instructions
• write and test simple programs
• use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple
programs
• organise, store, manipulate and retrieve data in a range of
digital formats
• communicate safely and respectfully online, keeping personal
information private, and recognise common uses of
information technology beyond school.
DON’T PANIC!!!!!
HELP! WHAT’S AN
ALGORITHM?
AN ALGORITHM
• A step by step procedure to solve
a problem.
• A plan of the steps you would have
to go through to solve a problem
NOW WE HAVE OUR
ALGORITHM WHAT’S NEXT?
• Can we give the paper to the
Beebot?
• How will it know what to do?
SO WE HAVE COVERED
THE FIRST TWO POINTS
• understand what algorithms are, how
they are implemented as programs on
digital devices, and that programs
execute by following a sequence of
instructions
• write and test simple programs
POINT THREE
use logical reasoning to predict
the behaviour of simple programs
POINT FOUR
organise, store, manipulate and
retrieve data in a range of digital
formats
AND FINALLY!
communicate safely and
respectfully online, keeping
personal information private, and
recognise common uses of
information technology beyond
school.
IN CONCLUSION
• My practice won’t be changing
much. I do it all anyway, I will just be
changing a couple of the words I
use
• The greater emphasis on e-safety
again won’t change much of what I
do, but it is very welcome to
emphasise its importance and
ensure everyone is doing it.
