Metric units of length
Various units of Metric System are related
to each other.
1 meter (m) = 100 centimeter (cm)
1 decimeter (dm) = 10 centimeter (cm)
1 meter (m) = 10 decimeter (dm)
1 kilometer (km) = 1,000 meter (m)

Tools used for measuring length

For measuring small distances in
centimeters, centimeter scale is used.

For measuring larger distances in meters,
meter stick or measuring tape is used.

Important Tips
To convert meter to kilometers, divide with
1,000.
Example – 50 meters = 50/1,000
= 0.050 Km
To convert kilometers to meters, multiply
with 1,000
Example – 2 Km = 2 x 1,000
= 2,000 m
