Objectives:
*At the end of these period s Pupils should be able to:
1. Figure out the verb from group of words in a sentence.
2. Convert present tense verbs into past tense in a right way.
3. Distinguish between regular and irregular verbs in the past
tense verb clearly.
4. Use the past tense when seeing certain key words.
Materials used:
White board, Worksheets exercises, flashcards, and song.
Procedures:
•The teacher starts with physical activities to explain action verbs.
•Explain that the present tense is used when the action is done today or
at the present moment.
•If the action was done yesterday or in the past, they have to use past
tense.
•The teacher starts introducing the key words that are used in past
tense sentences.
•Refer to the sentence constructed on the board and add 'ed' to the
verb 'jump', and add in 'yesterday' to the sentence.(with activities)
•Introduce a song that will help students to know that there are irregular
verbs which don't follow the 'Adding ed' rule.
•Explain that there are special words that change their spelling when
they become past tense. Show a few examples: run-ran, see-saw, comecame, go-went.
.Ask students to choose correct past tense verbs written on the white
board when giving them a present simple tense verb for example, jump,
jumped and run, ran.
•Divide students into groups to answer the worksheets.
