SOCIAL NETWORKING

Social networking now accounts for 22% of all time spent online in the US.

 

A total of 234 million people age 13 and older in the U.S. used mobile devices in December 2009.

Twitter processed more than one billion tweets in December 2009 and averages almost 40 million tweets per day.

 

As of June 2011 Facebook has 750 Million users.

Facebook tops Google for weekly traffic in the U.S.

 

If Facebook were a country it would be the world's 3rd largest.

Social Media has overtaken pornography as the #1 activity on the web.

FACEBOOK & MYSPACE

Location – The majority of Facebook users keep their location updated so their friends and family know where they are.

Education – Users often list the college they've attended. This can be helpful in assessing income. Screen name: Can send them a message directly through Facebook or through their screen name on various accounts (msn, hotmail, yahoo, gmail).

   Date of Birth – helps to verify that you’ve found the right party.

Telephone Numbers - Users often provide both personal and work numbers which can be used to call or text an individual.

Organizations – Individuals may provide information on organizations, groups or clubs that they are involved in which can be used to locate.

  

FACEBOOK & MYSPACE

Email address: Can be used to contact them via email Employment: Employment verification to employer can provide useful information, including current address and income.

Photos – Can be useful in identifying either the CP or NCP. Have successfully used (with an out of state facility Orchid scheduled a DNA test with) to confirm party whom appeared for DNA test without photo identification.

  Friends/Family – This can be used as an investigation tool. Ex. CP states she hasn’t had any contact with NCP but you find multiple messages going back and forth between them on their walls. OR NCP posts pictures of the child on their page and claims paternity.

Wall – It is amazing how much personal information people share on social networking sites.

FACEBOOK & MYSPACE

 In some cases it may provide you with the name of a local relative that you can contact to find information regarding the whereabouts of a CP or NCP.

 If they have other children chances are they talk about it and share photos.

 Users provide information on their status - if they are married , single, or in a relationship.

TUMBLR

 a microblogging platform and social networking website  As of February 27, 2012, Tumblr had over 46.2 million blogs and more than 18 billion total posts.

 The service is most popular with the teen and college aged user segments; fifty percent of Tumblr's visitor base is under the age of 25.
