Why Split Backs??
• Can utilize smaller, quicker players
• Can get 2 TB-type players on the field
• Dive hits faster than the FB in I or Flexbone
• OUTSIDE VEER!

Must be able to audible out of a bad play
Must call veer plays when the Dive is available
Must have complimentary plays

Veer Offensive Line Play Basics
• OPTION FOOTBALL = MOVEMENT!!
• Double-team/Combo at the point of attack
• Proper hat placement, then come off the ball
and BE AGGRESSIVE!!
• “SEAL” → Build a wall and get downfield on
the backside
Why Outside Veer?

A good companion to perimeter plays
Forces a 9 technique to play assignment football
Puts 4-3 teams in a bind at the 9 technique area
A great short yardage / goal line play
