piece of literature and a copy
should be kept in schools at all

answers to the most FAQs
• Issues covered include VAT,
insurance, funding,
responsibilities and approval
The SLA- What does it get
you?

into the SLA
• Included in the cost of the SLA is the
buildings package
• SLA rate this year is £4.01 per pupil plus
VAT on £1.73 for the buildings package

access to RE resources, discounts on
training and courses and pastoral support
for headteachers and staff

Improving Your School
Identify your priorities with your consultant
• using building development plans, asset
management plans, surveys of premises
• does the work require planning permission,
building regulations, CDM regulations?
• does the work require statutory proposals?
Costs
• how much will the work cost?
• is it capital work over £2,000?
• is it eligible for grant aid?
• if eligible for grant aid can the governors
afford the 10% contribution?
Funding Streams
DFC - Devolved Formula Capital
LCVAP - LA co-ordinated voluntary aided
programme
Basic Need
LA devolved monies
Government initiative monies e.g. UIFSM
The Governors

proposed project
• are responsible for financing the project – 100%
• are the contractual party with the contractor and consultant
• agree any changes to the project – particularly items that
affect costs. Any additional costs have to be agreed with the
diocese and funding identified before the work is carried out
What will your consultant do for you?
