 What
do we do in case of a tie?
• Tie’s a tie
• 2 x 10’ Overtime periods
• Shootout
• 2x10’ Overtimes + Shootout
 District
wide decision
• May be different for VB than for VG
 No
overtime in regular season JV matches
• May have OT or SO for progression tournament
 Shootout
Preparation
• Positions for AR’s pre-determined
• 2-man or 3-man
• Timing
 3 minutes from end of match to SO start
• Determine which goal you will use
 Environmental and field considerations
 Scoreboard
 Proximity to official’s exit route
 Visiting Team
kicks first
• No coin toss, no captains meeting required
 Alternate
shooters
• 5 Each team, or insurmountable lead
• Tied? Continue until a team leads at rounds end
 Any
eligible player on roster may shoot
 Goalkeeper MAY be a shooter
• Not REQUIRED to shoot
• May be freely substituted for
 Player
enters circle - may not be replaced.
 No player shoots 2nd time in a round of 10
• Player could shoot at both 10 & 11
 Shot
attempt must be made within 5 sec.
• DOES NOT have to be in goal in 5 seconds
• Ball continues in play until stopped by GK
• OR it’s natural inertia dies
 Shooter
may not touch ball after:
• Ball contacts goalpost, crossbar, or keeper
• Whistle to end the attempt if touched again
 Keeper
leaves line early
• Shot attempt halted and re-taken
 Ball
strikes an official
• Shot attempt must be re-taken
 Fouls
- Referee continues to call the fouls
 Foul by Goalkeeper – anywhere on field
• Shot successful – goal; Missed – PK awarded
 Penalty
Kick During Shootout
• Kick must be taken by fouled shooter
• If injured – substitute must be eligible player who
has not shot during current round of 10
• Neither injured player nor PK sub may shoot again
until next round of 10.
 Foul
by shooter
• Shot good – goal disallowed; Miss – attempt over
 Misconduct
• Normal misconduct rules apply for GK and Kicker
 Caution
• Must be substituted
• GK cautioned on shot attempt cannot defend PK
 OR return during HIS team’s next kick
 May return for opponent’s next kick
 GK
may be disqualified (sent off)
• Deny Goal by Handling – Outside the PA
• NOT for DOGSO

 Make
sure officials / players are ready
 Record player numbers
 Assure no encroachment by shooter GK
 Referee the Shootout – Call the fouls.
 Signal goal/no goal (crew coordination)
 If dual,
• Start watch with whistle and stop with shot.
Determine whether shot was made within the time
frame and signal referee goal/no goal
 KEEP
SCORE!
 Control
Center Circle (next players in position)
 Ensures
ball properly placed – 35 yd line
 Stay
out of the way of shooter.
 Assure
that shooter is ready-check referee
 Watch for referee signal to begin
• Lower flag and blow whistle simultaneously while
turning back on shot attempt
 Raise
flag / blow whistle at 5 second mark
 Record
Player Numbers
 Check non-participant GK
• at 18/goal line intersection behind your position
 Assure
that GK in play is on goal line.
• At least one foot on the goal line
 Be
goal judge. (Signal? Head nod/no flag)
 CRITICAL:
• Start watch with whistle and stop with shot.
• Determine whether shot was made in time
• Signal referee goal/no goal.
 KEEP
