speak?

explaining why language changes in relation to

Stereotypes
• A stereotype is a judgment by a
person or judgment shared by a
group of people based on uneducated
assumptions and generalisations.
• Black people are amazing at
basketball.
• White people have no rhythm.
• Everyone stereotypes and makes
judgments. However, the goal is to
become educated, and to learn not to
‘pigeonhole’ people.
• Stereotypes can be good and bad.
 Discuss what conclusions
(rightly or wrongly) you might
make about the following speakers.

• Think about why people speak
differently.
• Make a list of ideas in your book.

• There are ten main factors that affect
and influence the way we speak.
• These have been hidden around the
classroom. Your task is to collect all ten
reasons as quickly as possible.
