Rotary Against Drugs Speech Contest
Rotary Youth Leadership Program
Rotaract
• A service club for young men and women ages
18 to 30.
• Either community or university based.
• Eligible for district grants
Interact
• Is a service club for students 12-18 (now includes
middle school students)
• Needs both a Rotarian adviser and a faculty
adviser
• Must meet at least twice a month (Participation
in a project may count as a meeting make-up.)
• Focuses on leadership skills through planning and
participating in community and international
projects

Rotary Youth Leadership Program
RYLP is District 7690’s leadership
training program for young people
RYLP: The Basics

Who: 54 selected high school rising Jrs/Srs
When: Third week of July (July 13-19, ‘14)
Where: Guilford College in Greensboro
How: Apply online
Cost: $700.00 per attendee, but clubs can share
this! (i.e. 2 clubs can sponsor one student)
• Also: MANDATORY ORIENTATION (May 18, ‘14)
RYLP Timeline
• January: Website and Online Applications open; Info to club
presidents; clubs notify RYLP (Magill) of Selection Chair
• January – mid-March: Selection Chair coordinates with local
schools to identify prospects, have students submit online
applications, conduct interviews and/or review sessions to
select first choices and alternates
• Mid-March: Selection Chair submits apps (includes picture,
signed forms, etc.) and check(s)
• Mid – April: RYLP committee selects attendees; notifies
students and sponsoring club(s)
Rotary Against Drugs
Speech Contest (RAD)
• Conceived as a means for students to be
educated about the dangers of drugs by their
peers, not adults
• Students present speeches to the student
body (if possible)
• School winner advances to district event

District event: (Only 1 participant from a school)
– GTCC (Jamestown); Sears Bld.
– February 15, 2014 (Saturday), 9 a.m.
– 1st place District winner will present his/her
speech at the District Conference.
– Top three winners invited to Multi-district event in
Raleigh
