Preparing and Making Pictures
Find the graphics (and definitions)
• EnchantedLearning.com is a good source for
graphics and definitions
Clean up the graphics
• Take out the lines and/or the answers
• Use any Paint program
Make a picture for each feature.
• Highlight the feature.
• Save it in .gif format with an appropriate name.
(Example: starfish central disk.gif)

Putting Pictures in Template
Copy each picture and put it
in the left column. Label the
picture.
Copy the same picture and put
it in the right column
One page of the pictures
should look like this.

The Labels -- Name.doc
Open the su_name.dot template.
Put the names of the parts of the starfish in
the first column.
• Use the same order that you used in the picture
document.
This is the font to use.
• Comic Sans MS, 16 point Bold

Make the second and third
columns identical to the
first.

Save the document as
“starfish name.doc”

The Definitions -- info1.doc
Open the su_info.dot template.
Enter the definitions in the same order as the
starfish name.doc.
Leave the name of the part of the starfish in
the definition.
Reword each definition as you enter it.
• Be sure each definition makes sense.
• Avoid plagiarism!

Save the document as

Take the part name out of
the definition and reword
it if necessary.

Coloring Page
Open the su color.dot
template.
Put a blank picture in
each section.
I saved the file as
“starfish.doc.”

Starfish Book
Open the su book.dot template.
Count the number of pictures you have.
Make that number pages in your book.
Put the name of one characteristic in the
title line of each page.
Put a blank picture on each page.
Save the file as starfish book.doc.

If people want to save printer
ink and paper, they can make
a book using notebook paper,
by pasting one of the pictures
from the coloring page at the
top of each page.

of the page.
Put a picture of a starfish on the
page.

My Opinion
I think the definitions are the hardest part of
the study unit.
I used Windows Paint on this study unit.
• Paint Shop Pro is an excellent program. You
can get a free 30 day evaluation copy on the
internet.
I am 11 years old and it took me 2 days to
complete this study unit.
