Networking beyond the Networkers Or: Why content matters [email protected] TNC10, 1. June, 2010 The Beginning • For so many years, we networkers built networks by means of wires and alike, i.e. infrastructure on OSI layer 1-3. • But we didn't stop at hard- and software. We were also building communities. Our customers were supposed to understand themselves as our partners. This was our successful survival tactics when the ISPs emerged. We knew our customers, they knew us, and thus we were able to build a symbiotic coexistence. Today this singlesignon method is an international standard. They indeed do have needs for mutual services, like – SWTICHcollection – SWITCHcast – Eduhub Logos: Source: SWITCH © 2010 SWITCH 7 Now • One (not so) recently discovered species are the e-learning specialists. We were looking into their everyday life, listening to their needs and wishes, and we brought them together to build our next community.
