HEALTH CAREERS PROGRAM
College of Health Sciences & School of Science, Engineering and Mathematics
Some of our goals:
Prepare pre-professional students in becoming competitive and successful applicants
to health professional programs.
Facilitate opportunities for students to gain experience and network with local
health professionals.
WHAT DOES PRE-PROFESSIONAL MEAN?
Preparing for health professional school, i.e., medical school, where you receive
training for a career in specific health-related field and/or specialized education.
“Pre-professional” is not considered a major or minor.
A pre-professional student is not required to major in the sciences, but it is highly
recommended.
PROFESSIONAL VS. GRADUATE SCHOOL
Professional school = Training for a career in specific field and acquiring specialized
education
Earn a professional degree, i.e., M.D., D.D.S., Pharm.D., D.P.T.
Graduate school = Mastering a field, research and/or thesis-oriented
Earn a Master’s or Ph.D.
Options available for dual degree programs, i.e., MD/MPH or MD/PhD
