Data
Information
Data are symbolic representations of
observations, for example in numbers:
“The company has 100.000 Euro profit.”
While data on its own has little or no
significance, it is important raw material
for information.
Information is data organized and
presented in a meaningful way that it adds
knowledge to the user. In most cases, by
comparing significant structured data. For
example: “The company makes 25% more
profit than last year”.

INTEGRATED ANALYTICS
Most organization have invested heavily in transactional (ERP) systems, but still lack the
connection between the users and their need for information.
The information requirements for the end users are often unsufficient, because the
(initial) investments are focused on the transactional processes.
This is further complicated by the fast changing information requirements to
respond to changes in the environment.
The primary recording of data is linked to the transactional processes and are not
flexible to adapt to changing information requirements and new market challenges.
As a result information and reporting are lagging behind and are expensive to
adapt. This lack of agility generates additional costs and missed opportunities.
ERP or Best of Breed, it makes no difference because the information is generated
from data recorded in several systems, modules and/or databases hence the
need for Integrated Analytics.

INFORMATION ANALYSE
I want to know everything…. Or maybe not….
The need for information has a relation with the tasks, responsiblities and competences
of a job. This can be an internal or external function.
Concluding: WHO has WHEN, WHICH information required, in which FORM and WHY
Purpose of the information (report) determined by:
Content
Presentation
Frequency
Level of detail
Level of reliability (accuracy and completeness) -> often a consideration between
speed (timeliness) and weighing costs / benefit
Method of delivery possibility

BI (REPORTING) CONTROL CYCLE
Define
Report
Archive report
It is important to activily monitor the use,
relevance and actuality of the reports,
dashoboards and other information in use.
All reports at a certain livespan will have to
be archived and are replaced by new
versions.
Build Report
A Management Information Office (MIO)
can monitor the BI Control Cycle to ensure
the quality of information (reports,
dashboard, etc).
The objective is to offer users (from the
repository) relevant, current, tested
reports and dashboards.

THE FUTURE OF BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
Sustainable organizational assurance is needed to provide the appropriate information in a timely
matter to employees and management in the organization
For organizational assurance we distinguish :
1. Technical management-> Providing and supporting the technical application;
2. Application management-> Design and management of ETL and interfaces, as well as Database Management;
3. Functional management-> set-up, maintenance, adjustments and accountability of reporting, preferably by
setting up internal Management Information Office (MIO) function
MIO can be set up in 4 models:
1. MIO within ICT
Benefit: concentration on technical knowledge and competence to build and maintain reports;
Disadvantage: Lot of communication in between business and IT in order to determine the requirements in
order to finalize the report;
2. MIO within the users organization, like at the Business Controller
Benefit: Fast switching for realization of new and adjustments in report (the business financial is building)
Disadvantage: Does not always has the correct technical knowledge, competences and experience. In addition, a
lack of discipline can occur for testing every new or adjusted report before using it;
3. MIO for adjustments and simple reports within the users organization and the complex reports by BI specialists
in the IT-department, who will also secure and monitor the Repository and test process;
4. Virtual MIO in the users organization, with a central coordinator and contribution from staffing companies;
