Click to continue NETWORKING COMMUNICATIONS and protocols • When we designed our first network for gaming machines, it was based on Ethernet. Imagine, in the mid-90s, Z80 based Cherry-master games communicating together using Ethernet. It was an overkill, and understandably, the system was not widely used because of its high costs. We then used RS485 and RS232 with a custom polling protocol. • As you know, many things have changed since then and Ethernet have become very feasible. Our hardware optionally supports fast Ethernet on-board, and the games could be made to communicate directly on the internet using ISDN or ADSL. • A lower cost version could be made using RS485 or RS232 to communicate with a hub or router. A polling protocol is required. • Presently, our games can communicate with the operator using GSM. A complete network based on GSM could be very feasible also, depending on the required speed of communications. • Part of our scientific research & development in the last years (approved by the Government) was concentrated on data encryption. We devised a high power encryption algorithm which could be used to secure our communications no matter what standard or protocol we use. • We would be happy to work with you in designing the best networking solution that best suits your needs.
