GW Reads a LOT
Ideally…
• PreK: 1,000 books read aloud before Gr. K
• Grade K:
15-20 minutes at home
• Grade One: 30 minutes at home
• Grade Two: 30 minutes at home
• What to read? Familiar texts / Just Right
Books
•Remember to ask your child about what they
read – just going over the words is great but
comprehension is important too!
GW Writes a LOT
Ideally in September…
• PreK: Draw, Begin to Write Name
• K: Draw, Label, Write
• 1st: 2-3 pages a day, 3-4 sentences on
a page
• 2nd: 2-3 pages a day, 8 lines on a page
•Encourage them to try and spell words
out. That is how they learn to form
patterns.
