Background: The 5S technique is implemented in Velocity Apparelz Company (ESC), an 100 % export oriented garment
manufacturing facility located in Egypt. It was felt necessary to select the required areas, which form the initial part in the process flow.
This is highly important as it sets the proper tone for implementation, as it can be used to streamline the process flow and helps in easy
tracking of the objects.
Objective: To successfully implement 5s and achieve a visually organized workplace.
Methodology : Based on questionnaires and personal observations and suggestions & improvements.
Findings: Checklist to ascertain 5S condition prepared and audit being done after implementation fetching good score. SOP prepared
and some tools were modified.
Conclusion: The project helped me face the practical challenges of 5S implementation and brought a greater practical insight about its
relevance in the industry.

Project Title: AUDIO-VISUAL Operator Training Module

Background: There exists a scope of visual learning in Apparel Manufacturing Technology education. Visual learning is always better
than learning from books. Moreover, an operator training method based on visual learning may be more beneficial as the operator can
see the method of performing an operation again and again without actually wasting the raw materials required for demonstration
Objective: To development the training material for the sewing operators of the knitwear industry and convert it into audio-visual
mode.
Methodology: Identify what learners want or need to know and decide what type of training can meet their learning needs. Plan the
training so that learning is likely to take place.
Deliver the training so that the learning does take place. Evaluate the training so that there is evidence that learning has taken place.
Findings: Audio- visual training module prepared for operators, delivered and evaluated.
Conclusion: The training module was completed and will now be changed into flash version with local language voice over.

Project Title: Study of Production system for implementation of Quick Response

Background: The project was undertaken to determine the structure and the operational production/ inventory policies of apparel
supply system suited best to support rapid replenishment to retail in order to maximize performance.
Objective: Objective is to cut lead times- for the time-to market is very low in this case-this could be achieved by enhancing
information- flow by installing a seamless system
Methodology: Study of various production systems.
Study of role QRM methodology.
Study of Product characteristics and demand uncertainty.
Evaluating various manufacturing systems.
Comparison of various manufacturing system w.r.t. to QRM
Proposed new production system which is a hybrid of UPS & MODULAR.
Findings: Analysis of QRM, UPS, PBS, SKU showed QRM is best suited.
Conclusion: It has been found out by us during this research work that among the three Production systems, modular has the best
advantage over the other two production systems in QRM implementation.

Project Title: To develop a Quality Manual & Comprehensive Quality system

Background: A retail house catering to the premium market should have procedures in line with the company’s standards for meeting
customer’s satisfaction. The standards and specifications set should not depend on the in-house or out-sourced manufacturing for a
consistency in the final merchandise. Thus the project was framed to develop a standard quality manual.
Objective:To develop a comprehensive quality bible aiming at product integrity and overall consistency in all operations.
Methodology: Based on the study of the existing
Methods & acting on the difference to achieve the ideal procedures for a zero defect merchandise.
Findings:Quality manual developed featuring Product Quality Rating System (PQRS), Defect Library, Quality Index, o AQL, Zero ReWork.
Conclusion: This manual will act as a guideline for all QA Personnel, Garment Vendors & other concerned heads to understand
company’s standard in line with customer’s standard in line with customer’s expectations.

Project Title: 2 in 1 presser foot for single needle flat bed

Background: From previous studies it was observed that there is a unique problem regarding use of single presser foot in the assembly
line production. Whenever it was needed for attaching the concealed zipper or attaching the piping, the bundle was directed to that
particular machine consuming a lot of time as well as breaking the co-ordination of production. Keeping these elements into
consideration the project of making 2-in-1 presser foot was designed which can solve this problem to some extent.
Objective:To make a 2-in-1 presser foot which can be used like the single (right or left) presser foot and also like the normal foot.
Methodology: The proposed mechanics of the presser foot to be made is the basic hinge system followed by the spring system to
support the rigid position of presser foot. The presser foot must not move even a little or vibrate when either side of the shank is lifted
for the use single presser foot.
Findings: The 2 in 1 presser foot for single needle flat bed developed & total cost amounts to Rs.294.50/- beneficial for sampling
department and time saving.
Conclusion: The presser foot made is very significant to the garment industry as it will not only help to save the time of many
operations but also help to assemble those machines which are dedicated to the operation made by the single foot, to the main line
assemble.

Project Title: Flat bed attachment for feed –off-the arm

Background: Sampling room activities for small manufacturers can not afford specialized machines. The use of limited machines
dynamically to rapidly changing styles by some small and cost effective modifications was felt necessary. Thus the attachment was
developed in the project work aims to provide multiple uses of FOA as DNCS/SNCS in sampling activities with minimum installation
time.
Objective: To develop an attachment for feed –off-the arm sewing machine that converts it into a flat bed double needle chain stitch
machine which can be used in sampling rooms. The attachment developed should be :
i)
Easy to install and remove
ii)
Provides flat bed for stitch non-tubular seams thereby increasing utility of FOA in cases of idle times.
iii) Save on the cost of investment for DNCS/SNCS wherever possible
Methodology:Information on feed –off-the arm and dncs, conceptual designing of the product, material study and selection, functional
designing, product development, product testing, scope of implementation and limitations.
Findings: Attachment can be assembled and removed from the machine in 10 minutes and 8 minutes respectively.
Cost saving : Rs 33000/Space savings : 398 sq.in.
Conclusion: The study resulted in development of a fully functional flat bed attachment for feed-off-the arm sewing machine.

Project Title: Finishing of Cotton based Garments with Acrylic Acid in Absence of Phosphorus based catalyst

Background: Finishing of cotton using resins from methylolated urea derivatives such as DMDHEU results in some disadvantages in
respect of formaldehyde splitting during processing and use endangering the health of processors and users. Use of poly
(polycarboxylic acid) such as Butance Tetracarboxylic acid and Cyclopentane Tetracarboxylic acid etc. as substitude finishing agents
appears to be much more prospective in this respect. But they are prohibitively expensive and their application is associated with use of
phosphorous based catalyst which again has environmental problem.
Objective: To improve wrinkle recovery of cotton based garments by applying acrylic acid as formaldehyde-free chemical agent in
presence of combinations of either of

K2S208 and sodium format as catalyst
2.
K2S208 and sodium citrate as catalyst
Methodology:Cotton based garment duly manufactured by us will be finished with acrylic acid in presence of K2S2O8 and some
Organic acid following dip-spin-tumble dry-iron-cure technique and attainable changes in the properties of garment including wrinkle
recovery, strength etc were assessed.
Findings:Application of 8% AA in presence of 0.5% K2S208, 6% Sodium citrate produced improvements in tensile strength, tear
strength, flexibility, MR% for substantial improvement in wrinkle recovery comparable to that obtained in DMDHEU finish.
Conclusion: Acrylic Acid finish was found to bring improvement in WRA, retaining the other physical properties.

Project Title: Implementation of Lean in Finishing

Background: Garment Industries is facing a challenge in international market to respond to speed and quick changes in accordance
with the demand of the consumer. The project was conducted at TCNS Ltd. It has identifiable waste (non value added activity) in
accordance with the definition of lean which if removed will reduce the production cost.
Objective:To apply some of the concepts of lean manufacturing in the organization to eliminate waste assessed in respect of non value
added activity in the finishing that would lead to lowering of cost per unit of the item produced.
Methodology:Studying the entire finishing floor and the existing system. Short-listing the faults in the system and highlighting the
areas where improvement can be done.
Findings:Lean manufacturing, 5s, visual control, productivity implemented in the finishing department of the garment industry.
Conclusion: A systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste (non-value added activities) through continues improvement
by flowing the product at the pull of customer in pursuit of perfection.

Project Title: Implementation of Plan –Do-Check-Act Cycle.

Background: The project was conducted at Alok Industry Ltd Garments made up at Silvassa. While having an overview of the
organization, the areas where long term improvement was needed in fabric store and quality assurance. The unit being new and due to
change in the management time and again, the identified areas were highly unorganized and PDCA method was desirable to implement
to streamline the process.
Objective:Improve the quality system and hence, move towards perfection
Methodology:PDCA cycle is a continuous improvement cycle. It targets specific problems and provides solutions. The performances
are tested from time to time and changes are made to achieve the desired result.
Findings:Quality training module developed, questionnaire prepared, rating of the quality checkers made, analyzed and training
session conducted. Significant amount of decrease in number of defects found in the end line inspection in the month of April.
Conclusion: Positive change in the quality assurance system of Alok Industries Ltd. Garments & made up div.

Project Title: Applicability of CRM for Benetton India Pvt.

Background: The CRM programme undertaken previously at Benetton India Pvt. Ltd. was disorganized, and the satisfaction level of
the customers was low. The need was felt to improve the CRM programme and make it integrated. The project aimed at studying the
appropriateness of the existing CRM programme and to incorporate changes required.
Objective:The objective of the project was to develop more profitable relationships with customers and having a 360 degree view of
the customer helped. This meant that all touch points-salesperson, call centre agent, field service personnel must have access to the
right information to enable them to interact effectively with the customer, whatever the preferred mode of communication-face-to face,
phone, fax or email.
Methodology:The first step was learning theories, research works, and ideal conditions, rules about the CRM. The next part was
modifying the existing CRM programs keeping in mind the ones used by competitions and considering customers views. Then came
the implementation of suggestions and improvements of the program at the personnel and software level and evaluating the changes
and their fetched results last part was incorporating the changed frame of CRM into system and getting people adapted to them and
tracking down the further problems.
Findings:Changes were made in the store ambience, loyalty promotion scheme, customer feedback book. An online link was created
for enrollment of new members. A user interface was created for members to check individual account status.
Conclusion: Several changes were incorporated starting from the shop floor, the personnel, the policies and even to the software. The
aim was to retain best customers, converting good customers into high profit earning customers and dealing with unprofitable
customer.

Project Title: Kaizen an Approach towards value loss analysis

Background: The challenge of globalization has magnified the economy of most of the developed and developing nations. The
business has become more competitive and the requirement to improve the quality and productivity is one of the highest priorities.
Thus the Kaizen approach was selected for the current project which can indeed achieve and develop an organized work place to attain
the best market result.
Objective:With the Kaizen the goals are different. Naturally one tries to optimize the profit.
This is possible however only with high customer satisfaction, since customer production is more expensive than customer connection.
In order to ensure customer satisfaction, three factors are the center of attention: Reduction of costs, Quality assurance and speed.
Methodology:Related articles, case studies etc., Books, Internet Sources, Companies internal experts, Different reports generated by
the company, Observations derived from practical examination of fabric floor, Charts generated by analysis of secondary data, Touch
History Analysis.
Findings:In fabric store there is 52.3% reduced material flow and 7.6% increase in storage capacity
In cutting cost saving made due to elimination of end pieces % and in re-layering. Splicing method introduced to eliminate end pieces.
Conclusion: The project successfully fulfilled its aim of eliminating waste, by resulting in reduced cost in terms of 3 M’s of the
organization, material, manpower and money. The project looked at quality and time taken within the framework of the organizations
existing processes, seeking to enhance these processes to achieve incremental improvement.

Project Title: Development of Sale and Inventory Management software.

Background: The project is software which can keep records of all the items present in a shopping mall. There is a separate account
for the administrator of the information system who can insert, update or delete any record according to his/her choice maintaining
some basic rules whereas the seller can only sell an item by providing the Item No. of the corresponding item. The actual price of the
item will be calculated automatically by calculating the unit price and discount on the item and the number of item to be sold and the
final bill will be printed.
Objective:
To study the existing Sale and inventory Management software.
To analysis of Industry demand
Selection of right options for small retail store.
Methodology:Study of Existing Sale and inventory Management software was done.
Selection of right options for small retail store were analysed.
Effort to make the software economical.
Selection of platform independent front end i.e.Java and MS-Access as back end.

Conclusion:We are planning to install our softwares in a Delhi based retail setup which is expected to run successfully. It is expected
to have an increase in sales, easier inventory handling and reduction in inventory carrying cost in this small span.

Project Title: Enhancing Productivity by Reducing Lead time

Background: In a world where timeline is everything, on-time delivery becomes a critical component of each success story to meet the
customer’s requirement. The Indian garment industry has a major problem for exports in the recent economical scenario. So the project
work carried out in Kandhan Knits, was intended to analyse the lead time and try to find out where the waste exists so that it can be
eliminated.
Objective:To be able to understand the delays and its causes and propose a system by which delays can be cushioned
Methodology:Finding the third kind of activities which is delaying the process in every department of the industry and eliminating
those kinds of activities within the available resources.
Findings:Reducing lead time by 3.53 days in cutting and sewing section. Average time delay per style due to waiting for cut pieces is
reduced by 192.5 mins.
Conclusion: Almost in every garment industry they are facing the problem of late deliveries of goods. By reducing lead time we save
time in a particular order and can deliver the goods few days earlier which also saves inventory cost and all other overhead expenses.

Project Title: Costing strategy in weak Economy

Background: Cost estimation is an important part of product development. The companies which are working as sub contractor of
organizational companies, cost estimation is basically an agreement between the manufacturer and the customer. The programme was
prepared as a web application with the aim of wide access to any necessary product information by manufacturers and customers.
Objective:To develop an alternative solution of costing with extrapolation of the existing methods and detailed analysis of the working
procedure to help Atraco combat with the existing weak order flow.
Methodology:Extrapolation of the existing working system keeping in mind the changes going to incur and also without a great
amount of monetary loss. To develop an alternative costing sheet which can provide a better way to meet the targets.
Findings: A new way of calculating costs was developed which enabled to manage the order flow at lower margins and quote the best
prices. Since Bangladesh is the biggest threat, this approach helped Atraco to quote at the prices slightly lower than the target price of
Bangladesh.
Conclusion: Several changes in the costing sheet helped to get orders of around 25,0000 pcs for the new season even in this holocaust
situation.

Objective:To provide the user with a base to find out the requirements of a garment industry in terms of the machinery available in the
market that is used for apparel manufacturing and who provides them. To help the user identify his own requirements and find out ways
to satisfy them.
Methodology:Gather information about the machinery requirements in the apparel industry. Tabulate the arrange the data collected and
plan the path and method for data flow
Decide on the software and install it to develop the web pages and Configure the server to execute dynamic WebPages and
Link the web pages to form the website.

Conclusion: This project has been developed keeping in mind, the day to day needs of the apparel professionals and I hope that it
would serve the very purpose it has been created for.

Project Title: Development of a sewing guide for buttonhole machine for placket, Fly and cuff.

Background: In the present scenario of economic crisis the industry is keen to cut the production cost. The cost of labour constitutes a
major part. In order to rationalize the labour cost and increase the workers efficiency ergonomically the device is developed which
eliminates the marking procedure for button holes.
Objective:Reducing the no. of labours in the line because labour is getting costlier than ever.
Methodology: Listing out all the available options and choose the best of them. Make proper use of it and customize it for a special
purpose.
Findings:Reduction of material wastage, DHU and throughput time. Improved cycle time of button hole stitching and getting the stitch
right at the first time. 754 pieces can be produced extra by reducing the total time.
Conclusion: This sewing guide can save the labor force and decrease the throughput time thereby increasing production and saving
cost.

Project Title: Business Improvement Plan

Background: In these times of global melt down and rising retail space rentals, it is very important to reap the optimum benefits out of
retail space rentals by maximizing space efficiency. This project focuses on reaping the maximum benefits out of the retail space and
helps pinpoint the exact brands in MBOs that are not performing well.
Objective:To identify brands/Lob’s falling under the Benchmark by calculating return per square foot and recommending a business
improvement plan.
Methodology:Based on data obtained from SAP reports and interviews.
Findings:A business improvement plan was developed based on the return per square foot, sales per square foot. Based on this
parameters bench marks was created and space efficiency and brand performance was studied.
Conclusion: This project helps analyze brands/LoB’s to identify under-performers and suggests strategies to bring them above the
benchmark.

Project Title: Development of Integrated software of sales forecasting

Background: The need for predicting the sales of a store and its merchandising planning are very important for a store for its retail
growth and to effectively manage the store resources. Big retail store have forecasting and merchandising software but they are
expensive which the smaller stores cannot achieve. So, the project was taken up to develop a forecasting and merchandising software
for small retailers.
Objective:The project software developed was named MERCHANT++. It would help retailers to grow by forecasting their sales &
managing their merchandising budget by using 6 month merchandising tool. It would help retail stores to determine their planned sales,
BOM stock, retail reductions, purchases at cost, purchases at retail, markup, and gross margin
Methodology:Market Survey of proposed software

Software Development
Findings: A Sales forecasting and merchandising software was developed which would enable the small retailers to plan sales and
merchandising plan enabling them to purchase at lower cost and improve the gross margin.
Conclusion: Merchant++, software developed was praised by PARICHAY. But, to make it fully commercial more features need to be
added. This will take more time & effort.

Project Title: Pre Production Planning & scheduling software for easy production

Background: In Apparel Industry handles huge variety of work orders and they follow different types of operations, so it is require
planning them in different process and determining the resource require handling that order. For the manufacturing it is difficult to find
out proper process which is to be followed in the production floor and there have to maintain lots of paper work for production
planning.
Objective:To successfully develop and implement the software in production department so as to smoothen the process and also to
improve the order handling
Methodology:Studying the various production related activities and taking the base data’s such as time and motion study of each
operation and developing the process flow.
Findings:Standard Minute Value, Operator efficiency, Thread consumption, Order analysis, Garment breakdown.
Conclusion: The project helped in understanding the various production related activities and also gave a brief knowledge in software
developing. The software is base for production and will form a support in line balancing, calculating thread consumption, and
identifying bottlenecks.

Project Title: Lean Manufacturing Implementation

Background: The project is conducted in M/S Arvind Limited, Knits Garment Divison, Ahmedabad with a vision of minimizing the
non value adding activities and create a visually organized workplace by implementing some tools of Lean manufacturing techniques.
After a thorough brainstorming it was felt that inspite of their technical skills and motivation they are blinded to some of the wasteful
activities owing to their normal routine work pressure which need to be rectified.
Objective:To successfully implement Lean Production System and achieve better work system and an organized workplace.
Methodology: Identification of the major problematic areas, developing an action plan, Value stream mapping of the existing system
and implementation of Lean tools.
Findings:Value Stream Mapping done, non value adding activities identified and corrective measures suggested, 5s techniques being
implemented. Average daily production was increased by 12.22%, and missing % reduced from 3% to 1.04% after Kanban.
Conclusion: Lean Manufacturing tools were implemented successfully but not in all the departments due to time constraint. The
research work helped me to get a thorough practical insight about its relevance in the apparel industry.

Project Title: Implementation of Statistical Process Control

Background: Reducing costs by minimizing scrap and rework is the main goal of using tools of SPC for quality control and
improvement. This is achieved by finding out what a process produces compared to what a product specification are, and then driving
improvements to the process. It also analyse the process capabilities. With these views the project is undertaken to reduce rework in the
sewing department by implementing SPC techniques in AMS FASHION-1.
Objective: To reduce rework/repair level in the sewing department.
Methodology: Based on data collection and analysis from sewing floor
Findings:Absenteeism was found to be the root cause for higher defect rate in the sewing floor. After improvement in house keeping
the absenteeism percentage is reduced from 23.1% to 13.37%.
Conclusion: The purpose of this project lies in lean manufacturing with primary focus on cost cutting by making a visually organized
workplace reducing absentism of operators.

Project Title: Process Re-Engineering in sewing basic five pocket jeans

Background: The project focuses on reduction of the throughput time in the sewing floor by reducing unnecessary non value added
activities happening in the sewing floor to increase the overall productivity in Arvind Mills Limited. Since there is a huge deviation
occurring in the sewing floor between the planned production and actual output it was felt necessary to conduct the project in order to
re-engineer the present process by mapping the exact areas of the delays in the sewing floor to meet customer demands.
Objective:To reduce the throughput time and delays occurring in assembly line production of basic five pocket jeans
Methodology:Analyzing current situation of the sewing floor for the huge deviations between the planned and actual and know-how of
the unnecessary delays happening in the sewing line. Reducing throughput time of the sewing line and propose solutions to reduce
unnecessary delays using some of the lean tools.
Findings: Causes of non value adding activities and idle time breakup identified. Throughput time reduced by 30 mins by changing
machine lay out.
Conclusion: Reducing the throughput time and the unnecessary delays leads to a reduced WIP in the sewing floor leading to meet
customer demands in a more effective manner.

Project Title: Reducing the delays in the Pre-Production activities

Background: It is important to note that the pre-production process networks are unique for every single enterprise., every single
buyer and even for every single order. In the absence of a standardized pre-production process network, elimination, concurrence and
integration approach will be too specific to be applicable across industry. Based on this the project is undertaken to explore generalized
or standardized solutions/techniques that can be applied.
Objective:To successfully trace out the reasons of delays in the pre-production activities, and finding solutions to these problems.
Methodology:Detailed study of the department concerned with the pre-production activities, personal observations, questionnaire and
interviews.
Findings:Pre-production activities sheet developed for different lead time category and a master sheet was developed for PPC
department for auto generation of planned dates.
Conclusion: This project helped to face the practical challenges in the industry and gave me a deeper insight of the complete business
process.

Background: In the present global market certain aspects like quality assurance that are essential ingredients in the manufacture of
apparel are taken for granted. Thus it was felt to effectively start a quality assurance program to have a good mix of internal efforts as
well as outsourcing some of the inspection and testing activities in order to strengthen the existing quality system in the particular
Organisation (Kandhan knits). In order to control the defects it is important to identify their root cause and find a measure for their
rectification.
Objective:To improve the quality by using statistical quality control tools so as to identify the cause of defect formation and to find
suitable solutions to eradicate them through process improvement
Methodology: Study of the present system Using SQC Tools to identify the cause of the Anomalies
Implementing Process changes to Eradicate the anomalies
Studying the implemented process & using SQC tools to identify any further anomalies. To lay down guidelines to
prevent any further deviations from formation.
Findings:Inline inspection reduced the rework formation from 30% to 12%. After print and embroidery checking the rejection rate is
reduced from 8% to 4.2%. The excess percentage was also reduced to 8%.
Conclusion: The quality was improved but along with it the production rate was also increased due to reduction in reworks. Moreover
various key areas were identified for quality improvement using SQC tools and also process changes implemented.

Project Title: Indigenous trimmer for SNLS Machine

Background: Operators working on the sewing floor use hand trimmers or scissors for the purpose of thread trimming. The operator
has to reach out for cutting device, make the cut and then place it back to its initial position which is time consuming. The other option
being the use of UBT which is very costly. Keeping these things into consideration the project aims at designing a machine which has
integrated trimmer.
Objective:To integrate a low cost thread trimming device so as to eliminate the use of pair of scissors and thus reduce the machine
time.
Methodology:The project is aimed to be done in different phases. The first phase being the planning, research and study of previous
works. The second phase being the implementation of the study then remove the pitfalls. Phase three constitutes of developing a
working model and finally concluding the project.
Findings: Total time saved for sewing a run stitch on a collar using the over bed trimmer is 3.0 seconds. Total Cost of the device is Rs.
2300/-.

Project Title: Delay Reduction in Lean Merchandising

Background: The maximum time is allotted to pre production activities. The actual garmenting process does not increase the lead time
as much as the pre production activities Here comes the need to implement quick response system in apparel manufacturing with the
aim of shortening the pipeline by eliminating unnecessary inventory and WIP time.
Objective: To reduce the delays in several orders by analyzing the delay factors and giving suggestions for them.
Methodology: To determine the workflow in the merchandising dept. and finding out the reasons for delays in it and then giving
suggestions for them so that the delay decreases.
Findings: The most of the critical factors of delay is due to pre production activities. So. A merchant can manage the order better by
following the planned time and action calendar right the first time.
Conclusion: Made a manual swatch cutter gum sheets & checklist for the merchandising department so as to make work easy for them
Numerous suggestions given in respect to the delays found.

Project Title: Category Performance analysis and Visual Merchandise maintenance issues

Background: Category Management plays a huge role in enhancing store performance. Analysis needs to be done to find out the
categories that are not performing and the reasons for it. The steps needs to be taken to enhance the performance of non performing
categories and decision needs to be taken on which category is to be retained and which category needs replacement and also find out
the correct replacement.
Objective:To enhance the sales by category analysis and VM maintenance issues.
Methodology: Based on the basis of analysis of primary data and secondary data.
Findings: Accessory sales need to be promoted as sales from this category is low. The displays used in the store should be compatible
and blend properly.
Conclusion: VM standard should be up to the mark to attract the customer and ultimately enhancing the sales.

Project Title: Introducing “Hop-Wait –HOP” Production System

Background: Every organization wants to increase productivity. Different approaches are made to reach the goal of increasing
productivity. One of the way viz. “Hop-Wait –HOP” Production System is also may be tried to reduce waste and increase productivity.
Objective:With the kaizen the goals are different. Naturally one tries to optimize the profit. This is possible however only with high
customer satisfaction, since customer production is more expensive than customer connection. In order to ensure customer satisfaction,
three factors are the centre of attention. Reduction of costs, Quality assurance and speed.
Methodology: Related articles, cases studies etc.Books, Internet sources, Companies internal experts, Different reports generated by
the company, observations derived from practical examination of fabric floor, Charts generated by analysis of secondary data, touch
history analysis.
Findings: Value Loss, Muda Muri, Efficiency, Process Improvement.
Conclusion: The project successfully fulfilled its aim of eliminating waste, by resulting in reduced cost in terms of 3 M’s of the
organization, material, manpower and money. The project looked at quality and time taken within the framework

Project Title: To develop a strategic sourcing model

Background: Strategic sourcing is a disciplined, systematic process for reducing the total costs of externally purchased materials,
products and services while maintaining or improving levels of quality, service and technology. There are competitive as well as
customer pressure to reduce costs. The project was taken up to develop a strategic sourcing model which would ensure sourcing
decisions to suppor5t supply chain and business objectives.;
Objective:To make sourcing decisions such that they support supply chain and business objectives in garment industry.
Methodology: Based on collection of data from the central warehouse and following supply chain management norms.
Findings:Analysis of various sourcing models were studied a new fabric sourcing model was developed with the emphasis on the
reduction in lead time.
Conclusion: The project therefore helped to make a quantitative evaluation system for suppliers in Prateek Apparels Pvt.Ltd. and made
sourcing decisions simpler and logical.

Project Title: E-Learning For Fashion Technology

Background: The project was undertaken to understand the meaning of e-learning, its components, its advantages , importance and its
major features that can make it useful tool in fashion technology education in India. The project also analyses a survey conducted on
fashion technology student and faculty in major colleges to identify problem with traditional learning methods and there awareness
level about e-learning.
Objective:To assess the requirement of E-learning for fashion technology research and suggest the features required for the product to
be developed and develop a pilot version for the same.
Methodology:.Research was carried out in major fashion colleges in India like NIFT, Pearl and ATDC to find requirement of ELearning for Fashion Technology. Various features required for E-Learning was found out and finally a pilot version was developed.
Findings: E-Learning, Online Leaning, Scheme adopted.
Conclusion: The study shows that E-learning has wide scope in the field of fashion education and it could be very successful if
property developed and implemented.
