The purpose of the Initial Planning
Meeting (IPM) is to gather input from
the Exercise Planning Team on the
scope, design requirements,
conditions, capabilities, level of
participation, and scenario variables.

Scenario Discussion
Catastrophic event along the 800 miles of the CSZ
9.0 magnitude (M9.0) earthquake with ground shaking for up
to 5 minutes
Resulting tsunami estimated to reach as high as 49 feet
(warning time may be as little as 5 minutes)
Damage to infrastructure will result in isolation of the affected
area for several days
Adverse weather may diminish our capability to provide
resources to the impacted area
Costal land mass may subside several feet
Economic loss estimated at $3.6 billion
