>> Barcelona strategy to achieve energy self-sufficiency
self-sufficiency
Agència d’Energia de Barcelona
What self-sufficiency is?
Energy self-sufficiency is to obtain all the energy resources necessary to cover
the needs of a particular region within the same region
It is expressed by the ratio between :
• locally generated energy from
renewable sources or energy from
waste (EfW) and
• global energy consumption of a
region
self-sufficiency =
Endogenous energy*
Total energy consumption
* locally generated energy from renewable sources and waste
… quickly adapting to changes in present and preparing to future scenarios

We need to embrace a radical change in management of local resources and
energy used in the city, to enable the move towards energy self-sufficiency.
