Musa
peace be upon him
The Signs
"And throw down your stick!" But
when he saw it moving as if it were a
snake, he turned in flight, and did not
look back. (It was said:) "O Musa
(Moses)! Fear not: verily the
Messengers fear not in front of Me.
"Except him who has done wrong
and afterwards has changed evil for
good; then surely, I am Oft-Forgiving,
Most Merciful.
"And put your hand into your bosom,
it will come forth white without hurt.
(These are) among the nine signs
(you will take) to Fir‘aun (Pharaoh)
and his people. Verily they are a
people who are disobedient (to
Allah).

And indeed We punished the people of
Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) with years of drought and
shortness of fruits (crops), that they might
remember (take heed). But whenever good
came to them, they said: "Ours is this." And
if evil afflicted them, they ascribed it to evil
omens connected with Musa and those with
him. Be informed! Verily, their evil omens
are with Allah but most of them know not.
They said [to Musa]: "Whatever Ayat
(proofs) you may bring to us, to work
therewith your sorcery on us, we shall never
believe in you."
So We sent on them: the flood, the locusts,
the lice, the frogs, and the blood (as a
succession of) manifest signs, yet they
remained arrogant, and they were of those
people who were sinners.
‫األرعاا‬
Musa

And indeed We gave Musa (Moses)
nine clear signs. Ask then the
Children of Israel, when he came to
them, then Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) said to
him: "O Musa (Moses)! I think you
are indeed bewitched."
[Musa (Moses)] said: "Verily, you
know that these signs have been
sent down by none but the Lord of
the heavens and the earth as clear
evidence (i.e. proofs of Allah's
Oneness and His Omnipotence.).
And I think you are, indeed, O
Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) doomed to
destruction!"
‫اإلرساا‬
Musa

And when the punishment fell on
them they said: "O Musa (Moses)!
Invoke your Lord for us because of
His Promise to you. If you remove
the punishment from us, we indeed
shall believe in you, and we shall let
the Children of Israel go with you."
But when We removed the
punishment from them to a fixed
term, which they had to reach,
behold! they broke their word!
‫األرعاا‬
Musa

But when he came to them with Our Ayat
(proofs, signs) behold, they laughed at
them.
And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed
them but it was greater than its fellow , and
We seized them with torment, in order that
they might turn [from their polytheism to
Allah's religion].
And they said [to Musa]: "O you sorcerer!
Invoke your Lord for us according to what
He has covenanted with you. Verily, We
shall guide ourselves (aright)."
But when We removed the torment from
them, behold, they broke their covenant
(that they will believe if We remove the
torment from them).

The Rhetoric of Fir'awn
And Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed
among his people (saying): "O my
people! Is not mine the dominion of
Egypt, and these rivers flowing
underneath me. See you not then?
"Am I not better than this one [Musa
(Moses)] who is despicable and can
scarcely express himself clearly?
"Why then are not golden bracelets
bestowed on him, or angels sent
along with him?"
Thus he [Fir‘aun (Pharaoh)] befooled
(and misled) his people, and they
obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a
people who were rebellious,
disobedient to Allah.
‫الزخا‬

And nothing stops Us from sending
the Ayat (proofs, evidence, signs) but
that the people of old denied them.
And We sent the she-camel to
Thamud as a clear sign, but they did
her wrong. And We sent not the signs
except to warn, and to make them
afraid (of destruction).
‫اإلرساا‬
Musa
And if they see a
sign, they turn away,
and say: "This is
continuous magic."

And they say: "We shall not believe in
you (O Muhammad), until you cause a
spring to gush forth from the earth for us;
"Or you have a garden of date-palms and
grapes, and cause rivers to gush forth in
their midst abundantly;
"Or you cause the heaven to fall upon us
in pieces, as you have pretended, or you
bring Allah and the angels before (us)
face to face;
"Or you have a house of ornamentation
(like silver and pure gold), or you ascend
up into the sky, and even then we will put
no faith in your ascension until you bring
down for us a Book that we would read."
Say (O Muhammad): "Glorified (and
Exalted) be my Lord (Allah)! Am I
anything but a man, sent as a
Messenger?"

The Du’a of Musa
And Musa (Moses) said: "Our Lord!
You have indeed bestowed on
Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs
splendor and wealth in the life of this
world, our Lord! that they may lead
men astray from Your Path. Our
Lord! Destroy their wealth, and
harden their hearts, so that they will
not believe until they see the painful
torment."
Allah said: "Verily, the invocation of
you both is accepted. So you both
keep to the Straight Way and follow
not the path of those who know not."

The Exodus
And We revealed to Musa (Moses),
saying: "Depart by night with My slaves,
verily you will be pursued."
Then Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) sent callers to (all)
the cities.
(Saying): "Verily these indeed are but a
small band.
"And verily, they have done what has
enraged us.
"But we are a host all assembled, amply
fore-warned."
So, We expelled them from gardens and
springs,
Treasures, and every kind of honorable
place.
Thus [We turned them (Pharaoh’s people)
out] and We caused the Children of Israel
to inherit them
‫الشعاا‬
Musa

So they pursued them at sunrise.
And when the two hosts saw each other,
the companions of Musa (Moses) said:
"We are sure to be overtaken."
(Musa) said: "Nay, verily with me is my
Lord. He will guide me."
Then We revealed to Musa (saying):
"Strike the sea with your stick." And it
parted, and each separate part (of that
sea water) became like huge mountain.
Then We brought near the others
[Fir'awn's (Pharaoh) party] to that place.
And We saved Musa (Moses) and all
those with him.
Then We drowned the others.
Verily in this is indeed a sign (or a proof),
yet most of them are not believers.
And verily your Lord, He is truly the AllMighty, the Most Merciful.
‫الشعاا‬
Musa
peace be upon him
And We took the Children of Israel across
the sea, and Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) with his
hosts followed them in oppression and
enmity, till when drowning overtook him,
he said: "I believe that none has the right
to be worshipped but He (Allah) in Whom
the Children of Israel believe, and I am
one of the Muslims."
Now (you believe) while you refused to
believe before and you were one of the
corrupters.
So this day We shall deliver your (dead)
body (out from the sea) that you may be a
sign to those who come after you! And
verily, many among mankind are heedless
of Our Ayat (proofs, signs).
‫يونس‬
Musa
peace be upon him
So when they saw Our
punishment, they said: "We
believe in Allah Alone and
reject (all) that we used to
associate with Him as (His)
partners.
Then their Faith could not avail
them when they saw Our
punishment. (Like) this has
been the way of Allah in
dealing with His slaves. And
there the disbelievers lost
utterly (when Our Torment
covered them).
‫غافا‬
Musa

And indeed We sent Musa
(Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs,
signs.), and a manifest
authority,
To Fir‘aun (Pharaoh), Haman
and Qarun (Korah), but they
called (him): "A sorcerer, a liar!"
‫غافا‬
Fir’awn
Haman
Qarun
Tyranny
Power
Oppression
Money
Wealth
Musa
peace be upon him
Verily, Qarun (Korah) was of
Musa's (Moses) people, but he
behaved arrogantly towards
them. And We gave him of the
treasures, that of which the keys
would have been a burden to a
group of strong men. Remember
when his people said to him: "Do
not exult (with riches, being
ungrateful to Allah). Verily Allah
likes not those who exult.
‫القصص‬
Musa
peace be upon him
"But seek, with that (wealth)
which Allah has bestowed on
you, the home of the Hereafter,
and forget not your portion of
lawful enjoyment in this world;
and do good as Allah has been
good to you, and seek not
mischief in the land. Verily,
Allah likes not the corrupters."
‫القصص‬
Musa
peace be upon him
He said: "This has been given to me
only because of the knowledge I
possess." Did he not know that Allah
had destroyed before him
generations, men who were stronger
than him in might and greater in the
amount (of riches) they had
collected? But the criminals
(disbelievers, sinners) will not be
questioned of their sins (because
Allah knows them well, so they will
be punished without being called to
account).
‫القصص‬
Musa
peace be upon him
So he went forth before his
people in his pomp. Those
who were desirous of the life
of the world, said: "Ah,
would that we had the like of
what Qarun (Korah) has
been given! Verily he is the
owner of a great fortune."
‫القصص‬
Musa
But those who had been
given (religious) knowledge
said: "Woe to you! The
Reward of Allah (in the
Hereafter) is better for
those who believe and do
righteous good deeds, and
this none shall attain
except those who are
patient (in following the
truth)."
peace be upon him
‫القصص‬
Musa
So We caused the earth to
swallow him and his
dwelling place. Then he
had no group or party to
help him against Allah, nor
was he one of those who
could save themselves.
peace be upon him
‫القصص‬
Musa
peace be upon him
And those who had desired his
position the day before, began to
say: "Know you not that it is Allah
Who enlarges the provision or
restricts it to whomsoever He
pleases of His slaves. Had it not
been that Allah was Gracious to us,
He could have caused the earth to
swallow us up (also)! Know you not
that the disbelievers will never be
successful.
That home of the Hereafter (i.e.
Paradise), We shall assign to those
who rebel not against the truth with
pride and oppression in the land
nor do mischief by committing
crimes. And the good end is for the
pious.
‫القصص‬
Musa

Beautified for men is the love
of things they covet; women,
children, much of gold and
silver (wealth), branded
beautiful horses, cattle and
well-tilled land. This is the
pleasure of the present
world’s life; but Allah has the
excellent return with Him.
‫آل رعماان‬
Musa
peace be upon him
Know that the life of this world is
only play and amusement, pomp (a
display of great splendor and
magnificence) and mutual boasting
among you, and rivalry in respect of
wealth and children. (It is) as the
likeness of vegetation after rain,
thereof the growth is pleasing to the
tiller; afterwards it dries up and you
see it turning yellow; then it
becomes straw.
But in the Hereafter (there is) a
severe torment, and Forgiveness
from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure.
And the life of this world is only a
deceiving enjoyment.
Musa
peace be upon him
And it is not your wealth, nor
your children that bring you
nearer to Us (i.e. please Allah),
but only he who believes (in
the Islamic Monotheism), and
does righteous deeds (will
please Us); as for such, there
will be twofold reward for what
they did, and they will reside in
the high dwellings (Paradise)
in peace and security.
‫رسبأ‬
Musa

Do they think that in wealth
and children with which We
enlarge them
We hasten unto them with
good things. Nay, but they
perceive not.
[it is a Fitnah (trial) in this worldly life
so that they will have no share of
good things in the Hereafter]
