Career

• Tomasz Majewski was born on 30th August, 1981 in Nasielsk. He comes from small village called Sło

ń

czewo which is 80 km far from Warsaw. He took up shot put when he was 15, but first success occured when he finished high school in Ciechanów. He is 204 cm tall, and weights 140 kg.

• Majewski represents AZS AWF Warsaw. Witold Suski was his first coach until Autumn 2001. Until then Majewski reached 18 m in shot put.

Henryk Olszewski continued the work of Suski. The first great success came in 2003 during European Cup where Majewski put his shot farther than 20 meters.

Before the Olympic Games his major success was bronze medal he won at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia in 2008, fourth place at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest in 2004, first place at the Universiade in Izmir (2005) and fifth place at the World Championships in Osaka, Japan in 2007.

He made his major step at Beijing in 2008 where he resulted 21,51 meters in shot put. This put is considered as his best result ever. He is also the fourth Pole who throw the ball farther than 21 meters.

Tomek and his private life

Tom is a basketball fan – his favourite team is Detroit Pistons. He likes reading books (his major author is Jacek Dukaj), science-fiction and fantasy in particular.

He enjoys spending his free time with his wife, Anna.

He also likes playing computer games – Heroes of Might and Magic is his favourite.

He is fascinated with Iceland because of its beautiful landscapes resembling the Moon’s surface. Z krajów najbardziej pasjonuje go Islandia. Majewski has got MA in political sciences which he finished at University of Warsaw.
