What does PMS involve

Handheld Mobile devices at Parcel offices over GPRS Connectivity

• • Handheld mobile devices with barcode scanner facility, will be used for transmitting the PMS Data to the PMS server at CRIS New Delhi in Realtime fashion, through GPRS network. The GPRS network will be from service providers as utilised in HHT Project. Centralised server architecture must be used with central server at CRIS New Delhi and PDA’s parcel stations. The hardware and software requirement including VPN application at server and VPN clients in PDA’s will be addressed by PMS application group. The SIM required with GPRS facility for PDA’s will be finalised from service provider by CRIS on behalf of Railways. However respective railway shall apply for SIM and funds will be made available by railways from revenue.

Tracking of parcels through online information of parcels on internet site www.parcel.indianrail.gov.in

Customer can track its parcel against PRR no. on the parcel receipt. This tracking has been integrated with NTES system for expected time of arrival at destination.

FSLA (Freight Service & Ledger Account )

This module is for daily Registered Newspapers & magazines to be dispatched in train by paying some security in advance and pays the dues at the end of the month. This has been enhanced with generation of barcode, tracking and delivery.

Lease

This module covers the Leasing of Parcel Space in the passengers Trains to the private party. Testing is being done to provide online facility for customer to fill loading manifest and request for leave through internet 24

Training

Audio visual help file installed at each terminal. This helps new user to listen and see how to use the modules in software.

Bug reporting

For reporting defects in software user can log it in this module, which can be viewed by software engineer at CRIS and can send the corresponding reply in that module itself 26

Data Warehouse

 Online database holds the data only for 3 months after booking. Data more than 3 months old is sent to another database capable of holding voluminous data, which is called data warehouse.  A separate application has been made to access this archived data. A person can at any moment of time can fetch data from data-warehouse for various MIS reports.
