OBJECTIVES

   What is meant by “respect wildlife”?

Why is it important to respect wildlife?

Name at least three ways you can show your respect for wildlife.

Observe Wildlife From a Distance

    Maintain a safe distance.

Keep quiet…….(exceptions) Use binoculars, spotting scope or telephoto lens.

Let them do what they do.

Avoid Sensitive Times and Habitats

     Breeding Nesting Raising young Winter Specific habitats at certain times

Never Feed Animals

     It’s not healthy.

It alters their natural behavior.

It exposes them to other hazards.

It’s inconvenient.

It may be dangerous to you and the animal.

Store Food and Trash Securely

   Keep a clean camp.

Hang your food out of reach, or use a canister.

Atypical “foods”.

Control Your Pet

     Use a leash at all times.

Pets can spread disease.

Pets can disturb wildlife.

Clean up after your pet.

Pets can become food.

Other Ways to Respect Wildlife

      Planning and preparation.

Travel and camp on durable surfaces.

Dispose of human waste properly.

Leave what you find.

Minimize campfire impacts.

Be considerate of others.

SUMMARY

 Everything we do outdoors affects other people, plants and wildlife, both large and small. When we do everything we can to limit our impact, the natural world is able to function the way our Creator intended it to be, and we are all enriched because of it.
