 You will restrict your commercial driving
to INSIDE the state with No Exceptions!
 Inform DOL when asked.
 Your status will stay the same ―
or you can change your mind later

Interstate

You may drive a Commercial
vehicle OUTSIDE the state at any
time.
This includes Oregon, Idaho, Canada,
and any other state besides
the one you are licensed in.

For Interstate, DOL will require a
current copy of your:
 Medical Examiner’s Certificate

 DOL will:
o Contact you by letter using the address on
your license.
o Instruct you on best dates to pay them a
visit.
o Give you specific information on what you
need to bring.

Intrastate

Do nothing if you are happy with your
intrastate certification.

Your license will be updated when you
renew.

You can change to interstate if you meet
DOL requirements.

Interstate

Provide DOL a current copy of Medical
Examiner’s Certificate.
Expired Medical Exam Cert = CDL privilege
removed!

Interstate —CDL Privilege is Removed?
Do NOT drive a school bus without a CDL!
Immediately
1. Inform your district.
2. Provide a current Medical Examiner’s
Certificate OR change your self certification
to Intrastate.

 Renew your license:
o When your license is about to expire.
o Pay all costs applied for license type and
endorsements.
 Update your license:
o When you need to make changes to your
license.
o Update costs less than renewal.

License expires inside the window?
You can wait to Renew or you can update if you like
going to DOL more than you need to!
License expires outside the window?
You must Update when instructed by DOL.

Renew or Update
o Know costs and reasons for both

Oh No! I missed the deadline!
o Your CDL privilege will be removed.
o Until you meet DOL requirements to
reinstate your CDL.
o You can’t drive a school bus. You do not
have any CDL privileges.

medical exam certificate current and on
file with DOL.
