Paragraph 1:

found around your house
關係代名詞省略後,關代所引導之子句的動詞必
須改為分詞片語:N + Ving或N + Ven。例:
► The man talking over there is from England.
The man who is talking over there is from
England.
► The box painted black looks heavy.
The box that is painted black looks heavy.
 Take warm water, for example.
take…for example 以…為例
= take …as an example
add + N + to + N
 However, most people don’t know that
there’s another thing warm water can
do─ make a tangerine taste less sour!
① that在此為關係代名詞,其所引導的
子句做know的受詞。
② 此為使役動詞的句型S + make + O + V
。make為使役動詞,後面接原形動詞
taste。

此為it + be + adj. + to V的句型。it
為虛主詞,真正的主詞為後面的不
定詞。
 impress 人 with 事物
a few 一些,幾個
a few用來修飾可數名詞的複數形。
比較:
形容可數名詞
a few + 可數名詞 一些,幾個… (有肯定含意)
few + 可數名詞 只有幾個… (有否定含意)
a great number of + 可數名詞 很多
► I have a few friends in this town.
► Greg is not popular. He has few friends.
► There were a great number of people joining this
party.
形容不可數名詞
a little + 不可數名詞 一些------- (有肯定含意)
little + 不可數名詞
只有幾個---(有否定含意)

修飾形容詞及副詞的比較級。

Paragraph 3:
 How easy it is to improve the
taste!
本句為how引導的感嘆句
It is very easy to improve the
taste.
 If your friends…, show them how it works.
 if conj.
如果表達與現在事實相反或者不可能
發生的事情時,if引導的假設句時態
用過去式,
若是表達有可能發生的情況時,則用
現在式。故課文中if所引導的句子時態
為現在式。
在此作受詞補語,修飾受them
間接問句的句型為
「疑問詞 + S + V」
► We know what David likes.
 The tangerine tastes better than it did
before because the warmth of the
water makes it seem less sour.
本句中的did等於tasted。由於前面
已經提過taste,再次提到時,為
避免重複,以助動詞did代替。
seem (似乎) 的其他用法

► Therapy dogs seem to be helpful to the sick
and elderly people.

Paragraph4:
 If your friends are still not impressed by the
little tip on making a tangerine more delicious,
try this one: use a banana peel to polish your
leather shoes.
① 此為make + O + OC (adj.)的用法,
其他的及物動詞有keep、find、feel、
leave等。
② one是代名詞,可代替單數名詞與限
定詞中的指示詞(this、that等)直接連
用。
不能與one連用的限定詞包括所有格代名詞(my、
his、its等)、量詞(some、several、a few、both、a
number等)和不定冠詞(a)。
*限定詞(determiner)置於名詞或名詞片語之前,
其類別有:
1 所有格代名詞(possessive pronoun): my、his、
hers、yours、its、theirs、ours, whose等
2 冠詞(article):a/an、the
3 指示代名詞(demonstrative pronoun):this、
that、these、those
4 量詞(quantifiers) :some、any、many、all、
both等

子)」。要計算不可數名詞或成雙出現
的名詞時,可使用計量詞。

用於表達繼續說話,或者話題改變。
 Just remember to keep the peel, so you can

 do/does/did用於肯定句時,表示強調。

 not…but…意為「不是…而是…」,
用於連接有相同的詞性或對等的結構
► Kelly is not a teacher but a writer.
 be…, not…意為「是…而不是」
► Kelly is a writer, not a teacher.
Science is something (which is )
