CONCEPT
• The Nightingale & the Glow Worm as
related in the poem carries every object of
nature , living or non-living is useful in its
own way for the world to be happy and
prosperous, one must co exist with others
in a spirit of mutual respect and
understanding .
The Nightingale & the Glow Worm
• A nightingale , that all day long
• Had cheered the village with his song,
• Nor yet at eve his not suspended,
• Nor yet when eventide was ended,
• Began to feel as well he might ,
• The keen demands of appetite;
• The above lines tell us that a nightingale sang
the whole day long and made the village
people happy with his song. He stopped singing
when it was dark. He began to feel very hungry
as he had sound the whole day.
The Nightingale & the Glow Worm
• When looking eagerly around,
• He spied far off , upon the ground,
• A something shining in the dark,
• And knew the glow-worm by his spark;
• The above lines tell us that he was eagerly looking
around for some food and suddenly he saw
something in the ground. He saw something shining
in the darkness of night . He knew it was a glow
warm because it was glowing in the dark.

•
So, stooping down from hawthorn top,
He thought to put him in his crop,
The worm , ware of his intent,
Harangued him thus , right eloquent
“Did you admire my lamp,” quit he,
“As much as I your minstrelsy”?
You would abhor to do me wrong,
As much as I to spoil your song;
• The above lines tell us that the nightingale
bent down from the hill-top and though of
putting the glow worm in his beak and
eating him up. The glow worm was very
well aware of nightingale intension of eating
him as food . So the worm speaks words of
great wisdom to the nightingale. Glow worm
said to the nightingale if he praised glow
worm light. He says that he has all praise for
nightingales song but does nightingale also
praise his glow. so, You should also hate to
harm me because I also don’t like to do any
harm to your song.
The Nightingale & the Glow Worm
• For’ t was the self–same power divine,
• Taught you to sing, and me to shine;
• The above tell us that the Glow Worm
says that it was the same God that had
given them their Allen's of singing and
shining respectively.
The Nightingale & the Glow Worm
• That you with music , I with light,
• Might beautify and cheer the night.”
• The songster heard his short oration.
• And warbling out his approbation ,
• Released him, as my story tells,
• And found a supper somewhere else.
The Nightingale & the Glow Worm
• The above lines tell us that we both beautify the
world you cheer the world with your song and I
beautify the might with my light . So, we
should respect each others talent. The
nightingale heard glow worm’s speech with an
accent of agreement. Nightingale agreed to who
glow worm had said. The nightingale was
impressed by his words of wisdom and decided
to release the glow worm away to find his food
somewhere else.
