1. Remove nail polish from the nails of both hands.

2. File the nails of the hands (buffing can be done at this
stage without buffing paste).

3. Apply cuticle massage cream.

4. Soak the left hand in a bowl of soapy water then repeat
steps 2, 3 and 4 on the right hand.

5. Treat the cuticles on the left hand by applying cuticle
remover and pushing back the cuticle using a cotton wool
tipped orange stick or a hoof stick.

6. Remove excess cuticle using the cuticle knife and cuticle
nippers.

7. Use a nail brush to rinse of cuticle remover and any loose
cuticle. Dry thoroughly and then repeat steps 5–7 on the right
hand.

8. Massage both hands.

9. Remove grease from the nail place on each hand using
cotton wool and polish remover.

10. Apply nail polish. Base coat (once), coloured nail polish
(twice) and top coat (once). If the client does not want nail
polish, buff to a shine.

Paraffin wax treatment
1. The wax must be heated in the wax bath for at least 30 minutes
before you need to use it. Plan ahead to ensure the wax is melted
properly and ready for use.

2. Completed the manicure up to a brief hand massage.
Apply a rich massage cream and gently massage into the
area.

3. Check the consistency of the wax and test the temperature
by applying to the inside of your wrist.

4. Dispense the heated wax into a small bowl and quickly
brush the wax onto the client’s hands using a small
paintbrush.

5. Wrap the hand in a plastic bag. Tin foil can also be used.

6. Cover with a towel or thermal mitts. The wax can be left on
for up to 20 minutes but 10 minutes is adequate.

7. Remove the wax . It should peel off in one piece and be
disposed of.

8. A full massage of 10 minutes should now be given to
ensure the client receives the full benefit of the treatment.

9. Continue with the application of polish, taking extra
care when wiping over the nails with polish remover to
ensure there are no traces of wax left on the nails, which
will prevent the polish adhering to the nail.
