THE PRECIOUS LIQUID
First thing that we look for when we go in search
of life in other planet is water.
Our planet consist of 70 percent water body and
30 percent land mass.
But 97% of the water body is saline and hence not
potable hence only 3% percent is potable.
Of this potable water- 70% is in glaciers form and
rest 30% is liquid forms like rivers, lakes and ponds
etc.
So on our planet there is less 1% of water which is
potable for a world population of 700 crores.
We are not alone on this planet we have tress and
other living beings to share this water with.
We can see that life starts with water and no life is
possible without it.
We do so many things with water like bathing ,
drinking, cooking, cleaning dishes, washing clothes,
farming, running factories etc.
Our country is blessed with enough water with so
many rivers and lakes all around the country.
That’s why we find a phrase “sujalaam sufalaam”
in our national song vande mataram. Which means
india is a water adequate nation.
But because of our indifferent attitude towards
this precious liquid its getting depleted.
In the near future a time is looming when we will
stop sweating, our wells will run dry, people have
buy water through tankers, dams and irrigation
canals will get dry up, and water value will
become almost like milk or petrol.
Unfortunately this is happening in many parts of
our country and its like a nightmare which is
spreading gradually throughout the country.
INDIFFERENT GOVERNMENT
 The government retort to beat up the agitators whenever
people take out to street to protest. They are asking for
basic amenity from the government. Sometimes police
even open fire on the agitators. How are they justified in
explaining these actions from there part.
 People have the rights to demand these basic amenity
from the government.
 Some states are even fighting with one another over
sharing of water, below is a list.
 For cauvery water-kerala , tamil nadu, karnataka and
pondicherry.
 For krishna river-maharastra, andhra pradesh and
karnataka.
 For ravi & beas water-punjab and haryana.
Narmada water-rajasthan, gujarat,
maharastra and madhya pradesh.
Godaveri water-maharastra, andhra
pradesh, madhya pradesh and odisha.
VALUE OF WATER
 Every year nature shower us with enough water
but we take these waters for granted and don’t
try utilise it.
 These rain water gets accumulated inside our
planet through absorbtion.
 We have ground water deep inside our planet
which is the result of millions of years of
accumulations.
 Our modern usage of tiles in buildings is
blocking the rain water from going inside our
planet for future use.
 water crisis was unseen in olden days.
 Reasons being that in the olden days there use
to be a lot of ponds everywhere.
 Its that once upon a time in mysore state there
were 40,000 ponds. Kings in those days used to
fund these ponds for maintenance. With british
interference in the state administration these
ponds were taxed because people were deriving
utility from it. Hence gradually these ponds
started vanishing.
 Also people started to give more priority to build
shops, factory, houses, stadium etc upon ponds
by filling it up.
VILLAGERS PLIGHT
 Do the city dwellers know about their water sources? I
don’t think so. Majority of them don’t know.
 Result of this ignorance? City people end up using this
valuable water recklessly.
 Villagers around the country walk minimum of 3 to 4km
everyday to fetch a bucket of water.
 Cities in the would have been running dry without the
water sources in far off village.
 In some cases even denied of using the ponds around
them so that it can be transferred to cities.
 Government spends a lot on fitting a pipe to transfer
water to cities, in most of the major cities pipeline length
is not less than a hundred kilometre.
FILTHY RIVER
 Our river is nothing less than a drain where all
kinds waste is dumped ranging from industrial
waste to garbage.
 Its like polluting our own water resource or
cutting the branch of tree where we are sitting.
 The holy yamuna river today is one of the most
polluted river or we can say most of the malor
river in india.
 Recent survey did on yamuna river found out
that 600km stretch of the river is polluted to an
extent that no marine organism can survive in it.
WATER BORNE DISEASES
 By polluting water we are also infecting our body
with dangerous chemicals.
 Because of this pollution when this water is
filtered we are unable take out all the impurity
chemicals completely.
 And this partially filtered water is used by
farmers for agriculture.
 The plants consequently utilise this water and
retains the harmful chemicals.
 This plants reach us through the forms of
vegetables.
WATER HARVESTINGS
• As said before nature shower us with enough
water every year as rain.
• We must learn make efficient use of this
precious liquid by harvesting it.
• A farmers can build a medium size pond to
cater the need of their work or the community
can join hands to build a pond to save the rain
water.
• The above mentioned method has been used by
some to solve the water scarcity of their village.
Chennai city is the first metropolitan city in india
to succesfully implement the water harvesting
scheme all over the city.
Its said a women commissioner of the city with
the help of government made it successful
through imposing penalty if a household
disobeyed.
Today the ground water level of chennai city is
much higher than what it used to a decade ago.
So we can take inspiration from this story and
start harvesting water.
CONCLUSIONS
 A scientist did an experiment- he took a frog and placed
it into a bowl full of boiling water, the frog instantly jump
out of it. Again he took the frog and this time he placed it
into bowl full of cold water. The frog this time didn’t jump
out and instead he was enjoying it. Moments later the
scientist lighted a fire and the bowl was placed above it.
So the bowl was gradually heating up and frog was
enjoying the warmness. Slowly the warm water turned
into boiling water and the frog died in it.
 So the moral of the story is lets not be like this frog.
Because like this frog we keep using up the water
recklessly and not realizing the consequence. By the
time we realize it will be too late and no water will be left.
So the theme of this presentation is lets
join hand to save water and hence save
life. And lets give chances to future
generations for they will be left with no
water If present usage of water continues.
