4 Levels of Knowledge & Skills
• Dementia Informed Practice – baseline K&S required by all staff
working in health and social care settings including the person’s
own home
• Dementia Skilled Practice – K&S required by all staff that have
direct and/or substantial contact with PwD, their families and
carers
• Enhanced Dementia Practice – K&S required by staff with more
regular and intense contact with PwD, provide specific
interventions and/or direct or manage care services
• Expertise in Dementia Practice – K&S required by staff, who by
virtue of their role and practice setting, play an expert specialist
role in the care, treatment and support of PwD

1. Support the development of a standardised approach to dementia
education, embedded in all undergraduate and postgraduate education
2. Developing Targeted educational responses to support workforce
development at the Informed and Skilled Practice Levels
3. Developing Learning materials for staff working at the Skilled Practice
Level
4. Revise and develop vocational qualifications to reflect the Promoting
Excellence Framework
5. Increase Access to evidence-based Psychological Interventions and
Therapies for People with Dementia, families and carers
6. Increase Access to evidence-based Psychological Interventions and
Therapies for Stress and Distress in Dementia

• Training Materials to initiate Training for Trainers in Evidencebased non-pharmacological interventions to stress and distress in
dementia

• Delivery of Training for Trainers workshops – cross-sector dissemination of
an evidence-based model of non-pharmacological interventions to stress
and distress in dementia

and carer distress
• Specialist Neuropsychological Assessment Training
• Cognitive Stimulation Therapy – group and individual
