Using Propel Rather Than Water Did Not Make
the Radishes Grow Taller Than The Control
T. Ullman, K. Kruzeck, N. Ledvina, Ag Food Fun, Hour 5, Denmark Middle School
Introduction: Like all plants, including
radishes, they use water to grow. The research
question we have is that we wondered if
instead of using water, would propel affect the
radishes by making them grow taller. Our
hypothesis is that propel will make the radishes
grow taller than water. We think this because
propel has more nutrients in it than regular
water. According to pbf, (pepsicobeveragefacts)
propel has many vitamins such as c and e.
That’s more than water has..
Methods: To test and see what worked best, we
did the following steps:
1. Went to the greenhouse and filled two small
pots with soil.
2. Planted three radish seeds in one pot, and
three in the other.
3. Watered the one with regular water ½ cup,
(control) and the other with ½ bottle of propel.
4. Placed both pots in sunlight
5. Watered the plants everyday
6. Used the cm side of the ruler to measure the
radishes.
7. Final measurement of how tall the radishes
were.
8. Cleaned up our work space and got rid of our
pots.
Results: After 3 weeks, we gained our final results of
how long each of our radishes grew in length
Cm:
● Control- 5, 2, 2
● Variable- 2 ½, 1 ½, 2 ½,
Average for Control- 3 cm
Average for Variable-2.17 cm
Control was better by 0.83 cm
Discussion & Conclusion: We believed that propel
would make the radishes grow taller than water.
From our experiment that we conducted, our
hypothesis was proven wrong. But to fully confirm
this, we would have to conduct another experiment
and see if the results were the same.If we would
have added more propel than we actually added, our
results could’ve been different. One reason it might
not have worked, is that propel contains a little of
sodium. Not enough to kill the plant though.
