Sentence combining is:  Making the sentence smoother   Easier to understand or clarify Putting detailed sentence of two or more short, choppy sentences

 Short sentences are easy to read, but several of them in a row can become so monotonous that meaning gets lost.

 In other words, it gets you or the reader BORED.

A BMW screamed around the corner.

The BMW was fire-red.

It screeched to a stop in front of the doors.

The doors led into the school.

The fire-red BMW screamed around the corner and screeched to a stop in front of the school doors.

Screaming around the corner, the fire-red BMW screeched to a stop in front of the school doors.

     Punctuation- combining sentences using punctuation marks such as dash (-), semicolons(;) and colons (:) Coordination- combining sentences using conjunction words such as FANBOYS Subordination- making one sentence more important than the other ( one independent and one dependent clause) Reduction- reducing sentences into phrases Apposition-the second expression that is supporting the first expression

 1. Hartford is the capital of Connecticut. It is the second largest city in the state.

 2. Hartford was once known as an industrial center. It was the home of several manufacturers. They made firearms, typewriters, bicycles, and even cars.

 1. Hartford, the second largest city in the state, is the capital of Connecticut.

 2. Once known as an industrial center, Hartford was the home of manufacturers of firearms, typewriters, bicycles, and even cars.
