REACH AND OBTAIN A WORTHWHILE GOAL
 The Reserve Officers’ Training Course (ROTC) is an
experience like no other.
 As a Cadet, your leadership skills will be challenged every
day, as you are provided with the tools, training and
knowledge necessary to excel as an Officer in the National
Guard.
 You will learn to lead, inspire and motivate Soldiers.
 You will conduct combat, hometown, and when necessary
disaster relief-support missions.
BE PART OF A TIME-HONORED TRADITION
 Since 1916, ROTC has created leaders who go on to
successful military and civilian careers:
 General Colin Powell (Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair and
Secretary of State)
 COL Eileen Collins (first female Shuttle Pilot and
Commander of a U.S. Spacecraft)
 Sam Walton (U.S. Army Captain and Wal-Mart
Founder)
 Historically, ROTC has produced two-thirds of all National
Guard Officers..
BECOME A LEADER
ROTC BASIC COURSE
 The ROTC Basic Course takes place during your first two
years of your bachelors degree in college (normally during
freshmen and sophomore years).
 It normally involves one elective class, lab and physical
training each semester.
 You will learn basic military skills and the fundamentals of
leadership, laying the groundwork for you to become an
effective leader in the National Guard.
BECOME A LEADER
ROTC ADVANCE COURSE
 The ROTC Advance Course takes place during the last two
years of your bachelors degree in college (normally during
the junior and senior years).
 It normally involves elective classes, lab and physical
training each semester.
 You will learn advanced military skills and the
fundamentals of leadership. You will be placed in
leadership positions and have opportunities to excel and
prove yourself as an effective future leader in the National
Guard.
BECOME A LEADER
LEADER DEVELOPMENT AND ASSESMENT
COURSE (LDAC)
 All contracted ROTC Cadets will attend the LDAC.
 This six-week summer course, taken between your junior
and senior year, teaches and evaluates advanced military
skills.
 You are assessed in your ability to perform in positions of
leadership prior to graduation and commissioning as a
Second Lieutenant.
SIMULTANEOUS MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM
(SMP)
THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
 SMP Cadets attend ROTC and work as assistants to
National Guard leadership during drill weekends.
Becoming an SMP Cadet is the only way to gain “real
world,” on-the-job experience.
 SMP Cadets are eligible for benefits not available to
traditional ROTC Cadets, including drill pay and tuition
assistance, which can total over $40,000 for college.
 Surely the best of both worlds in your path to becoming an
Officer!
SIMULTANEOUS MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM
(SMP)
UTILIZING YOUR PRIOR SERVICE
 Because of military training and experience, students who
have completed military Basic Training can enroll directly
into Advanced ROTC and skip the first two years of ROTC.
 These students are also eligible to enter the Simultaneous
Membership Program (SMP) – a joint program offered by
the National Guard and ROTC.

military and civilian career paths
 Financial assistance necessary to earn a college
degree
