Railway Safety Status in Korea
• 3.9 billion passenger moves 60 billion passenger-km
• 194 million train km in 2010
• 12 TOCs operate 92 lines(4,200km)
• Korail© operate 74 lines(3,600km)
• 11 Metro operating company operate 18 lines(600 km)
- Among 695 metro station, 419 station install
platform screen doors(no fatalities occurs at this stations)
- 504 underground station
• 1,174 station, 1,313 level crossing(92% install auto. barrier)
• 57,000 staff work on railway operating companies
• 135(include 59 suicide fatalities) fatalities occurs
• No passenger fatalities occurs in recent 5 years

Railway Safety Statue in Korea
• Based on “Railway Safety Act 2004”
- 77 Railway Safety Measures, 1bil USD/yr.
- 55% Reduction in accident rate
(3.68  1.64/mil km)
- 46% Reduction in accident fatalities
(249 fat./yr  135 fat./yr, include suicide)
• Rail Passenger increase 1~2% every year

- No train accident fatality occurs from 2005
- Attempt suicide : 44% (59 persons)
