Booking the train tickets
A tourist goes to a booking office of a travel agency to have a train reservation. ( T: tourist C: clerk)
C: Can I help you, sir?
T: I’d like to make a reservation for a ticket to Shenzhen for Friday. Which train should I take?
C: We have train 77 and train 15. Train 77 is a direct train. Train 15 is a night train.
T: I will take train 15, please.
C: Your name, please.
T: Peter Smith.
C: One-way ticket, or round trip ticket?
T: One-way ticket, please.
C: Do you want a sleeping berth ticket?
T: Yes, one soft berth ticket, please. What platform does the train leave from?
C: It leaves from platform 7.
T: What kind of train is it? An express train?
C: Yes, it is an express train. It only stops at big stations. The train leaves at 7 o’clock in the evening
and arrives at 8 the next morning. You can have a good sleep on the train, the next morning, when you
wake up, you will find you have already arrived in Shenzhen. Thus, the trip won’t be boring.
T: That’s great. Thank you.

( R: reservationist T: tourist)
R: Good morning, China Eastern Airline. Can I help you?
T: Yes. I’d like to make a reservation for two to los Angeles, please.
R: For, what day, sir?
T: Next morning, if possible.
R: That’s the 27th of August. Yes, we have flights at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
T: I prefer a morning flight. By the way, what type of aircraft is it?
R: Boeing 777. How do you wish to fly, sir, economy or first class? And window seats or aisle seats?
T: Economy, and window seats, please.
R: All right. Will you pay in cash or by credit card, sir?
T: By credit card. By the way, is that a non-stop flight?
R: No. You’ll have to make a stopover in Tokyo, Japan. It’ll be a three-hour layover, and you’ve supposed to
remain on board until the plane takes off again.
T: Do you have a direct flight?
R: I’m sorry, we don’t have any direct flight on that day. We have Shanghai-Los Angeles on-stop flights only
on Tuesday and Saturday. Will you change the date of your flight?
T: Oh, no. How long will the flight take? I mean the indirect flight.
R: It’s about 16 hours, including the layover in Tokyo.
T: All right , then. Two tickets for that flight.
